    Let's assume I register on a website.

Is there any way I can check if my password is stored securely, that is salted MD5?

In my opinion any webmaster can just crosscheck my login details on many networking sites etc...

    What are your views?

That's why you should generate a new random password for each site! Especially sites in dodgy industries like IM. Using the same password over and over is a big no-no, especially re-using the same password that you use for your email, paypal etc. Yes it is a PITA, but there's no alternative unless you like risking everything.

There is no way you can check that, you would have to hack the website to do so ^^

So like Autumn said different password for every site. This is really important.
I had this once: Someone scammed me, i found out one of his passwords and about 30min later i had access to all his accounts because he had only one password.

Yeah, yeah... I'm using many password in tiers :)

    That why h**p://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OAuth

I think it should be more popular and each site should have it obligatory!!!
