Passkeys will now be the default solution for Google services

Over the past year, Google has added support for passkeys (login keys) in everything from the Chrome browser to Google Workspace and Google Cloud.

Now Google announces that passkeys will continue to be the default solution for logging into its accounts, something that aims to improve security.

According to Google, it is 40 percent faster to log in using passkeys compared to passwords.

In addition, nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of users believe that it is a smoother solution. But those who want to continue using passwords can of course choose that option if desired.

Are you using passkeys yet?

Interesting. I do have 2FA enabled and a strong pass, but this will be nice to try out. I guess it will be based on asymmetric key pairs? If so, it should be pretty much unhackable. Regardless, it is good to move away from passwords.

I find so many people with unencrypted devices that I start to doubt this will be the way to proceed. Many unlock systems are so weak nowadays.
