Panda 4.2 Is Here!

As I announced last night at Search Engine Land, Google has released Panda 4.2 after being without a Google Panda refresh for about 10 months.

The most interesting thing about this Panda refresh was that virtually no one noticed. Really, no one. I track the forums heavily, no one this weekend noticed.

Google told me on the record that the Panda refresh began this weekend, around Saturday and is rolling out incredibly slowly. It can take up months to fully roll out and even on a site by site basis, not all of your pages may pick up on the roll out for months. This does not mean the algorithm is page-by-page basis, it is a site-wide algorithm, I've confirmed that too when I heard about the roll out being slowly pushed on a page by page basis.

Google wouldn't tell me why it was going to be such a slow roll out, I asked, but they didn't want to say much about it.

One point to add, even though it is rolling out slowly, making changes to your site now, won't make a difference with Panda 4.2. Of course, it may help when Google pushes Panda 4.3, whenever that might be.

Its a slow roll out and according to google it has only affected 2%-3% of search results so far.

They're rolling it out slowly over maybe weeks... why? Possibility one is maybe that they don't want everybody to shit their pants over the update. The more radical the release, the slower I'd release it if I were them. The other possibility? They got embarrassed by the PDF cloaking blunder, and were forced to re-consider much of their update. Now in order to get SOME of it started they are feeding what they know works out now and publishing the rest as its tested.

Either way I've seen nothing.

But here is what I'd like to see. Everybody keep their eye on their PBNs. I'm real curious to see if this update punches through a lot of PBNs' internal SEO footprints.

I noticed this started Sunday, and my tracking tools clearly saw major shakeups last night. All this update appears to have done though, for the most part, is just increase the authority of authority sites more, and increase the likes of big sites (forbes,walmart, etc) in the results.

Love when Expertpeoon makes an appearance with his insights. Ya I notice the big boys are just dominating more and more off of barely related terms, it's ridiculous.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of this new update and on checking my stats I haven't noticed anything different so far. Fingers crossed all the worst ones are behind us and this won't have much of an effect!

This has been a consistent trend in Google updates for the last 2 years in my opinion. Size = authority to Google, and even if they aren't relevant to the search, Google assumes everyone wants to wind up on the same hundred or so websites.
