Do you guys use paid high PR directories to rank or is this an ancient method?

It isn't a secret that google do love the paid directory such as the Yahoo one, as far as they are very selective.
So yes the link from such directories has a high value. Its necessity to rank a website can be discussed and depends greatly on your project.
