I have a client with an ecommerce website. In the collection pages, it has pagination from around 1 to 15 and more.... The client has added the canonical of the main page to the website, as per my knowledge which is blocking the other pagination pages from indexing...

https://www.abc.com/towels?p=2https://www.abc.com/towels?p=3https://www.abc.com/towels?p=4https://www.abc.com/towels?p=5and so on..

All these pages have the canonical of the main page, i.e.

https://www.abc.com/towels/

Is this really a good idea to block all the other pagination pages

From my point of view if we put the self-referencing canonical on all these pages instead of root page canonical, this will open the doors of getting more traffic from multiple pages..

Looking for guidance on this situation what I have to do, put the self-referencing canonical on all these pages or to add root page canonical.

So if you want more people to find your products, use self-referencing links (like https://www.abc.com/towels?p=2) on each page instead of linking them all to the main page, and so it might help search engines show each page in search results, bringing in more traffic.

Help your site get more visitors by using the self-reference link on each page (like putting each page's name on it), instead of just pointing everything to the main page. It lets google understand each page better.

Use self-referencing.
But this is not about getting more traffic because you hope to get more URLs in the index. You do this because of indexing and internal links to products.
You can also find this recommendation from Google.
