Pagespeed really matters?

Looks like not really, but then again this is just a single very narrow experiement

Not even going to type the whole post: pagespeed matters, the average user bounces @ >3 seconds if a page doesn't load beofre first interaction.

NOTE: this does not mean they bounce before all resources are loaded (e.g. a pixel that loads last, and after first interaction isn't going to affect UX or Bounce Rate).
 
it does affect! Page speed is a direct ranking factor, a fact known even better since Google's Algorithm Speed Update. However, speed can also affect rankings indirectly, by increasing the bounce rate and reducing dwell time. At Google, users come first.

Not sure of the "Q" - but I agree with @Mr Positive. Slow sites are bad, people bounce if the site doesn't load in >3 seconds. Try to boost sitespeed, ask other where than here...
 
Of course it does.

Even if proven to not affect SEO, think about the users. Good luck with a slow e-commerce site.

Or any site for that matter, conversion rates will die.
 
Nowadays it doesn't matter a lot, apart from what Backlinko suggests.

But we have to consider two facts:

1. Google said they will start doing thing weird things with Chrome:

2. Last but not least, they introduced this in Google Search Console not far after:

So take this as a warning.

Some years ago when we were transitioning to "Mobile first", people asked the same question

Nowadays, I can't seriously doubt anyone in this forum doubts about the necessity of building a perfect mobile site to rank adequately.

If they take speed so seriously, I may, at least, learn how to aim for speed whenever I develop a new site.
 
Google is able to accurately determine the loading time of the site, and if the site loads for a long time - this lowers its position in the search results.

Please, explain how does Google determine the loading time of a page?
 
Good page speed = good user experience.

For pretty new site it will be problem, but not much for trusted site as it is already valued by user.
 
Good user experience matters, speed alone can't do anything.
 
Yes, and a lot, I had a class "How to Make Your Website Works for You" on the Google building for the program Grown with Google NYC, it was very productive on the white hat aspect, I deleted soo much chit I had on my site to improve speed, now I've been checking daily to see if I go up
