I don't understand something, everybody always say that the page speed is essential for SEO right now and a very important factor, especially for mobile, so why on some very popular blogs like ahrefs and backlinko, when I analyse it is so bad ? Why they don't optimise ?

Is there something I am missing ?

Because the habe brand and these type site have authority and also have value to google. In a common sense people search it as name in google like "ahref" "backlinko" but making brand is not easy and they have common reader who always going their platform at any cost.

I wish I know the answer. But, I think the speed may also be one of the factors, though not as important as you think.

Faster sites are better for your users and for your ads.. nothing more! Maybe is a ranking factor, but not important one... All authority sites that u check will have pagespeed 20/40 cause they have a looot of info.. videos.. images.. social buttons and much more. Focus on links, ctr and content.

Yes I don't deny this fact, they are monsters in the field, but I find strange that they don't apply the advices that they recommend, if it was so important, it would mean that it can affect them negatively too..?

PageSpeed takes a very very small part into the algorithm of ranking the website, that's why if you have a well-built backlink profile you can still rank good.

However, keep in mind that Ahrefs is not slow, you can try on your own search engine and it opens very fast, backlink could be improved indeed.

Unless backlinko would be really slow, like take 10 seconds to load, then I'm pretty sure that it would drop on rankings, otherwise it is staying where it is.

Thanks for the replies, indeed their websites open very fast, the problems must be some other technical issues not so important in the eyes of google.

You see they do not applied yet, but they will apply these method when they understand that their value decreasing day by day.

Google AI too much smart day by day and I think these page speed applied when google decrease their rank if this point matter.

Page speed is one of the ranking factors in 100s and those you mentioned are brands that getting lots of traffic so that doesn't make much change for them. If you newly start website you should notice and fix it.

which tool should we use pagespeed by google or gtmetrix?

gtmetrix says 96% and page speed 26 score lol

Because everyone uses ahrefs or semrush and they don’t care about their sites speed also ahrefs has always loaded fast for me check your internet connection if facing issues

1) Pagespeed matters but it is one of the many signals google uses
2) What shows in the page speed tests is first-time load speeds - it does not take into account browser caching etc.

In reality, if I visit ahrefs today and again after 2 days, it doesn't download JS, CSS, Images again (unless they are changed)
