so i have this website 6 months old and only my homepage have 35 spammy comment links, but it seems to be enough to get to pagerank 1... what's even more strange, three of my inner pages with no links at all have also a PR1 now..

don't i need some good backlinking before i got reward from google?

No you don't need backlinks if you have some quality content on your site that is exactly what Google is looking for. Content is king still applies to today's SEO tactics.

I didn't build any backlinks to a site for a long period also, and got a +1 PR update from 0 > 1 on many pages. As the others say, it's about content, and also page structure.

well, since it's my first site ever, haven't touched it for few months and i know little about the topic, i'm pretty surprised..

now it just needs to make some money :D

How are you checking your backlinks?

There's a good chance that you do indeed have some backlinks somewhere, maybe even a trackback or two from people that left comments. Heck, maybe even the commenters sent links to your page to help their comments get indexed.

If you built links to your home page and your inner pages are connected to your homepage then pagerank will flow to your inner pages.

If your homepage is PR1 and flows to your inner pages then more than likely your site has minimal internal pages.

Breadcrumbs can also help with the flow of pagerank to larger sites.

Yep..write a great article about something competitive like buying viagra.
Dont build any backlinks.!!!!
With some nice site interlinking.
And google will reward you for your masterpiece of literature by ranking your site by placing you on page 4,000 of the search results.
And we all know that a ranking like that will reward us with a ton of traffic.
Its about content and backlinks..and other variables.
"Google" cannot tell "great content"(whatever that means) from markov text..only humans can.
That people still do not understand that is not my worry.:D

with seoquake. i don't allow comments...

i'm ranking on first page in G with 3 pages and i made whopping two sales... so i don't believe my content is seen as the king to my readers...

Yep. If I were you, I'd slap up some more **quality** content and see how high you can take it ;-)

You still need backlinks to rank! Most specially if you're competing with high-competition keywords.

if you have aged domain with good quality content , you'll get some good PR , no need of backlink counts, I got PR3 for my music site, I just had 40 links so far...

if you update almost daily than you will get a PR without backlinks
