Page authority is a metric that is generated by a third party (Moz). It does not directly impact rankings, although can be useful for making certain estimates at a glance.

Imagine your website is a runner. Moz is an stopwatch - it measuring your performance, but doesn't gave you any speed - its just measuring performance. However Moz stopwatch and Google stopwatch are not synchronized - Moz stopwatch is trying (not very successful) to predict how Google stopwatch is working...

Page authority used to display that how many times your web-page can be displayed on the search engine search result. There should be 100 to 150 logarithmic links. Page links also matters a lot in the page authority. It's score varies from 1 to 100. Higher the score, higher the page rank.
So it helps in SEO.
