Like why own more then one accounts? I'm seeing guys here making over 100s of accounts. What the goal of them? Is it really just to pump up the 'money' account to give it more authenticity by it having a large number of 'followers'?

Because if thats really is the reason, one can spend 5 bucks and gets loads of them instantly. Why go through the mess of owning tools, proxies, private proxies, phone verification, simcards etc just to have them?

If you only have one account and get it banned what do you do?
But more than 5 or 10 accounts i dont get it either

I don't do Twitter, but I do Tumblr and I only have 2 accounts. My money account, and a personal one. My money account has about 16K followers. I never really saw the purpose in owning a bunch of accounts on any social network. I'd rather just grow one big authority page. Having a bunch of accounts, using software and proxies etc is what gets you banned... I am not worried about my account getting shut down, and if for some reason it does.. oh well, time to move on.

I can give you several reasons to do it:
- growing accounts to sell them (I do that)
- using other accounts to promote your @main account
- using accounts to spam, therefore you can afford to lose them

Of course I have my main 3 or 4 accounts, but the rest of them I grow them for different reasons.

several of my FB accounts were banned this week, this answer your question? :)

There are a number of ways to use them.

1, lots of mentions of money site, social authority in search engine's.

2, to act as drones to allow you to bypass daily follow limits.

3, to make a page or post seem more popular, drones to game the algorithms.

There's probably more but you get the idea. Imagination is everything.

You dont really want to buy followers, because pretty much 100% of them will be fake.
If you have no money for promotion, the only real option to gain followers is to follow/unfollow.
How many can you follow per day? 300?
Say you're good at it and 30% will follow back - thats 90 followers a day.
90*365 = 32850 followers a year.

After 10 year s you will have 328,500 followers, by that time Instagram will die as phenomenon.
Instead you can create 100 accounts and get 3,285,000 followers total in only one year.

If you spend $5 and 'get loads of them instantly' the person you're buying them from would need to have 'load' of accounts from which to follow you from. Most [not all] the companies that buy/sell social media activity own the accounts that are generating the activities they're selling. Sometimes people selling activity don't manage/maintain quality accounts and the accounts they follow/like get banned. OR genuine/real people can look at your followers / likers easily identify traits of 'purchased' activity and it be discouraged from engaging with you. If your account is for your business or 'brand' [vs a personal account] you risk the possibility of hurting your brand reputation.

It is to promote your main "money" account, not follow your main acc giving it plenty of fake follower numbers. You can use these backup accounts in many many ways!
