Outsourcing digital work - how avoid theft?

I have digital work I need to outsource. Digital work is easy for someone to steal. How do you prevent or lessen the chance of theft of digital work if you outsource it? The only ways I can think of is having a PC with no internet connection no disc drives for burning or copying the data and have someone come to my house to do the work BUT this is not an option for me. And of course the other option is to do it myself.

What kind of digital work are you talking about? ebooks? articles? camtasia vids? if so, there isn't really a way to avoid it altogether, you just have to find someone stand up who you can trust. Maybe you can get a reference from here of someone who does what you need but has done it alot and no complaints.

What kind of digital work are you referring to? That makes a big difference. I will try to help based on what I've read in your post as I have some experience with this.

My #1 tip, find someone in the Phillipines. It's difficult for us in the US to understand, but the Phillipines has a culture of honesty...they are very honest and hardworking people. And they do not have credit cards so it is difficult for them to operate any kind of IM business (thus lowering the possibility of theft)..

Secondly, most people doing outsourced work are not marketers...so they wouldn't even know what to do with your work....(but again this depends on what kind of work we're talking about)

Hmmm, interesting tip. My two best ever freelance writers came from the Phillipines. They had the same level of English as an American writer and were very good workers. And yes they were honest workers too.

Where could I find someone specifically from the Phillipines? Sorry to hijack the thread but I know from experience that that's a very good tip.

I disagree. I got my freelancer from Philly, but she keeps talking bullshit about her. Damn. One is enough, and I will think twice if I want to hire a freelancer from Philippines.
 
Depends on the kind of work you are looking to get done. You could get it done in parts by different people so that none know what exactly is being done. But that's not always possible.
 
If you feel too insecure to get an online freelancer, I guess you have to find yourself the nearest trustworthy person to you. You risk losing your work and a lot of money if it's really important to you.
