Outranking Tumblr?

I have successfully identified a niche market that I am interested pursuing but most of my keyword research reveals individual tumblr blogs on the first few pages.
My question is how hard it is to outrank tumblr for search rankings? Is this a dead end....I am a little bit of a newb when it comes to some of this SEO stuff....but its fascinating!

Its very possible, especially if you have an EMD.

If you don't just add plenty of quality content and a few backlinks, if its a fairly small niche, that should be all you would need.

tumblr blog is not hard to outrank.
in my niche, i'm outranked by serveral amazon page, dont know how to beat them.

Don't worry. Just keep updating your website you will beat them one day, as long as there are no many home pages on the first page.

What to you think is easyer to rank a blogspot or a tumblr ? same content , same backlinks

thanks for the replies. I was wondering how heavily those tumblr blurps were rated by google. Should be a fun go at it. if nothing else i can probably identify a pretty good untapped affiliate source

I have one Tumblr blog, Today blog rank #1 in particular keyword. After penguin update I am just focus on content, I was hired good content writer. According to my requirement, he is providing me high quality content with low keywords density. I am also make daily plan for promotion that's really helpful for me.
