Heya,

Just getting into SEO, I have a quiz website and I'm looking into potentially ranking for some keywords.

Obviously content is a huge factor when it comes to ranking, most quiz based keywords are dominated by the same similar players.

Due to the nature of quizzes, the content of the top ranking pages is extremely thin. Normally, there is less than a few hundred words for the quiz intros if any at all and the keyword often doesn't appear there, the only content on the page is often the quiz questions themselves with the keyword just appearing in the page title.

Often the ranking sites have high Domain Authority and quite a few banklinks to either other pages or their homepage, is it still possible to outrank these sites when my site is new and without banklinks or is it not even worth a shot? My only advantage here would be much larger content.

Thanks!
James,

I don't have a lot of knowledge in seo but i think u have to look and if u find someone ranking with a low DA it means that there is a possibility. For the backlink i think u really need some but it all depend on the competition

Maybe you can combine an article with the quiz itself. So your visitor can choose, whether they want to read the article first or take the quiz instantly.

I feel like this is quite a rare sight with quiz keywords :weep: but I'll look harder, thanks.

Yeah, I'd put an article before the quiz but I'm wondering if this is enough to out rank their thin content due to their sites being pretty big.

Is your quiz site trivia-style? If yes and if you have many questions in there, answer a few questions yourself in some articles (obviously looking for low competition keywords). From the articles you can direct visitors to quiz page.

Thanks for the response, could I not just put the article before the quiz?

I have the same issue. I wrote articles for the quiz 800words + and bought pbn backlinks as well as created backlinks on my own. I didnt see any impact. the quizzes which I did this for do not even rank.
1 quiz which I did not write a long article for and for which I did not buy any backlinks suddenly ranks 9-11 place from switching between 35ish-50ish. I only did one reddit post 4 months ago and google search console says there are 24 backlinks all from reddit which looks super spammy. if i click on them I cant even find the links.

So in a nutshell I have no idea.

Are both the keywords similar competition?

You defo need links.

You won't outrank sites like Sporcle, Beano etc. with better content only. You need backlinks and proper on-page seo, but it still will be hard.

well kind of... so because every tool uses a different keyword difficulty I use the average of them I dont know if that makes a lot of sense though.
The keyword I am ranking for 10ish place has an average KD of 22. The keywords I actually put afford(backlinks etc.) in had an average KD of 25, 29, 33, 33 so its a little bit harder but not that much more...

That's interesting, it would be great to know that causes the one to easily rank. There are sites ranking for top 10 for some difficult quiz keywords with basically 0 domain rating and 0 back links. Hard to tell what does it

It's the latest genius Google update I guess.
