I'm doing some reputation management for a client right now.

Their brick and mortar business site is in position 1 for the company name and RR comes second. The name gets around 100 monthly searches so this is of some concern.

My tactic is to get their social media pages to outrank the RR. I built a link structure to their Facebook page consisting of 1000 profile links as tier 1 and 10,000 blog comments as tier 2.

It has been a week now with no movement in Google. Their Facebook page has stayed at position 6.

My question is should I wait longer to see, or throw more backlinks at it?

If you suggest I add more backlinks, how many (roughly) and what types?

Thanks.

(I searched all the RR threads by the way and while everyone just mentioned outranking the RR through backlinking, they never mentioned a ballpark of how many backlinks or what type. I'm just scared to throw too much spam at Facebook, Twitter etc...)

Build some more links, add some blogs networks posts and social network links as well.

You need more pages that can fill up the first page. Go build MORE social profiles that rank well for brand terms. Link to those pages from the clients hompeage so that there's link juice and credibility going to them.

Find pages already ranking somewhat well that you have control over and are a positive spin, link the shit out of those.

RR's are tough to beat. Your best bet is to buy a bunch of domains with the company name in them and rank those... it happens pretty quickly... you can probably buy 10 domains pretty cheap if you use coupon codes.

Try to rank business listing sites such as the yellowpages and angieslist for their company name instead of social networks.

Interesting. Would you put up a quick 1 page landing page on each and place a link to the money site on them?

will someone please help me? I have a company that I incorporated and i can't bury these false ripoff reports about the previous owner... Have spent way too much already...backlinks and all as well as reputation. com Help!!

You're talking about backlinking but your goal is to manage your client's reputation, right? Managing it for the long haul should be accomplished by building positive reputation, via reviews (e.g.: Yelp). Additionally, if your client is an "expert" on some aspect of their business, guest posting on high PR blogs help build backlinks while simultaneously growing the positive reputation. Over time, the bad reputation (RipOff) will be pushed further down by the positive reputation.
