Outranking news sites

I want to enter a niche where the first page is full of news sites. They are mostly recent news with no backlinks but the sites are old and established. How hard it will be to rank in this niche and how long do you think can take for a new domain?

It depends which news sites, is it cnn, bbc high authority type of news sites? If so it sounds hard from the get go, but not impossible.

New sites can be difficult to rank as the indexing part it self takes some time but depending on the quality of your content, it might.
