Outbound links, yes or no?

I'm reading mixed views on whether or not my authority site should have any out bound links, mostly with regards to by blog posts. What's the general consensus, yes or no?

Yes, I believe you should have outbound links and more importantly you should have internal links to other pages on your blog.

From what I can gather, you can have as many internal links to other pages on your site as you want to do. Now, you will want to be linking to other relevant pages on your blog/website.

One site that does this more than any other site is wikipedia. Check out any wikipedia page and you will see a ridiculous number of internal links pointing to other pages within wikipedia.

In regards to outbound links, you should link to authority sites that you think are relevant. Check out matt cutts blog and you will see he usually links out to a ridiculous number of other sites in all his blog posts. MC is a linking fool in his blog posts.

These are my observations, please look at wikipedia and other authority sites and you will see what I see...My two cents, hope it helps...

Definitely a good idea to link out to authority sites, however, I'm still not sure if those links should be no-follow or not. I have heard many arguments for both. Any thoughts?

from what I have read, just keep that as do-follow...

its all about associating your site with other authority sites and linking to "good" neighborhoods...

It can't hurt even if they're do-follow, in my opinion - linking to one or two authority subjects on the subject can only help your site look more reliable and legitimate to search engines as well as readers. However, it may very well decrease CTR, so that's one thing to consider...

Since page rank no longer an issue - yes. If I understand Google's algorithm correctly, linking to authorities in the field adds to your relevancy.

I think this falls into the "link love" category and I only believe as so many authority sites have massive internal links within their pages and a few outbound links sprinkled in...

I'm definately in the "massive internal link structure and minimal external links" camp. It's always worked for me.

All it will take is a brief survey of the competition for you to see that authority OBL is certainly working well.

how many pages do you have in your authority site? and you were hit by penguin at all?

possibly, but looking at "authority" sites, I have seen this over and over and it seems like a very common theme, especially internal linking...

wikipedia does this in an obscene manner, I have never seen a site do so much internal linking...

over 600 pages and penguin/panda only really affected some longtail searches, that I hadn't worked on for quite a while.
