Outbound (External) Links To Pages Ratio

I have a website with 40 pages (blog posts) and in total 100 d0follow external links.

If I use it as a money site, what do you think about the OBL/pages ratio?
Or maybe is the actual number (100) that matters?

Side question: If it was a PBN..? Do you change your answer?

I've never been sure that this matters per-domain basis, and not even more, per obl/page ratio. Think on pages as microsites within a site. Even an internal link in your site could be considered an OBL from a page perspective.

Creating a page is easy AF and Mr. G. knows this. How could this make it relevant at all?

Also it feels difficult to test if this could make sense at all. What are you trying to improve/avoid?

It doesn't make sense either from a logical or a pragmatical point of view.
It would make a lot more of sense a OBL/IBL ratio or even better: evaluating the powerlevel of each outgoing and incoming link

I always think on this as a boat sinking: the more OBL the bigger the holes, the worse the site you link, the bigger the hole it makes also. Contrarily, the better the IBL the bigger the buckets you have to put out the water incoming to your boat.
If the water that comes into the boat is more, than the one you are able to throw out, your boat will end sinking A.K.A. Mr. G penalty. If you have your boat free from water and you start renting others your free buckets, your boat will be popular amongst buccaneers

Cool explanation man!

Based on your in/out thoughts, sound better to keep OBL as low as possible and keep getting more... buckets. There was an "wikipedia" concept back in the days, saying that if you have tons of OBLs you are kind of authority... You link people to valuable sources.

I try to have tons of super authority sites linked form my properties. What about that?

As long as it looks genuine outbound link with the long article you can go ahead. Good anchor text and the proper mix of authority sites links give much more reliability about those pages.

100 OBL with do-follow links in 40 pages is acceptable if all those links are pointed to the relevant sites and some of them used for authority sites like Wikipedia. No one can give the exact number of OBL per page, Because OBL per page depends on the length of the articles.

I won't take the risk if the site previously used as PBN. We don't know how many tier2 links forced to this site. So it is a bit risky.

Directories used to be a thing... But they used to play a lot with OPR, a concept that not everyone know much about. In short: exchange links: I will link to your site from: Restaurants > Italian > Local Delivery > Pizza and you link your site to my directory from home or a page from home...

Also, Wikipedia, was the G alternative to infamous dmoz... Personally I just OBL from a practical point of view and disregard all recommendations. Unless a link really make sense (both for the text or for $$$), I wouldn't OBL just for the sake of doing so.

As mentioned above if the article is long and it covers some specific topic obviously it will have some more OBL links to link to its sources. Even site with low OBL also do good. So unable to decide OBL per pages. Diversify your OBL links and link to relevant and other sites logically. For PBN, it will less when compared with real site. To keep it safe.

Linking externally to high authority pages in order to support your point is a great practise for SEO.

I have seen some great results from just adding a couple strong external links to research papers in my old articles.

I think you should never be scared of "overlinking externally" within your posts. Look from example at the Backlinko Blog, he links out a looooot in each and every post.

However, when it comes to homepage and category pages (theses usually have a lot of internal juice) I would generally advise against linking externally at all in order to preserve the juice.
