Hi Guys,
I´m looking for a new domain for a project which i want to start and found a good one with a different ending than .com like for example "boombox.audio".
I´ve heard that .com domains are better bc. people still arent used to new extentions. would it be a bad decision to get this domain (i really like the name^^)
for SEO-Reasons and branding etc.

Thanks for the help

.com is always preferable for any type of website. However, if you really like the name, you can go for another extension. It will be a little difficult on the branding part though. Whether it matters at all for SEO is highly debatable. One can argue that most websites that rank have .com extension, but that's because most websites are using that extension. But there are a ton of examples whether non-.com websites rank well too.

A few months back, I got a .org domain that I liked a lot. The .com was already taken and I didn't have the budget to try to buy it (it would easily sell for more than 25k USD). So I went ahead with the .org domain and currently the website ranks very well for the keywords I'm targetting.

Having said that, .org or .net is more brandable than .audio in most cases.

Just make sure the name that you choose is not already used by a well known .com website.

Thanks for the input, helps a lot. The .com Domain is parked for 20+ Years without a site. I will think about taking it, i also thought about buying an expired domain bc of the history but I rather have a fitting domain bc. I don't plan selling the site and have it as a long term project.
