ORM and PBN's

Is this a good strategy for doing ORM:

I have a URL on page 3 on Google that I want to get ranked on the first page.
What would be a good strategy?

I have an expired domain, should I make a PBN and link to this site? Or are there easier ways to have the same results.

Should the PBN look natural (with content, social fortress, etc..) or is a smart homepage link enough to get this moving.

The PBN should always look natural. As if a quality rater would have no problem passing by this site and thinking its legit.

now, your result on page 3, what kind of page is it? I see 3 types of results and only 1 or 2 of them should be pushed with a PBN for long term results:

- it's a domain you control entirely > you can do on page SEO, manage the technical aspect > you can push it with a PBN and hope it reached page 1
- it's a web 2.0 > you can do on page SEO, don't manage the technical aspect > It's risky because they can fuck up their technical SEO, but you can take the chance.
- it's a press article / page you can't touch > you can't do on page SEO, can't do technical SEO > you shouldnt push those results, efforts not worth it, they often end up changing their architecture / technical aspect and you'll be fucked

Actually it's a social profile (think Medium, but a different one), that I want to make a PBN for and link to the profile.
Do you think this is effective. Or should I just interlink social profiles and web 2.0s?

Also, this social profile has no followers, or following. It's just one I need to rank higher to be honest.

It really depends, lot's of factor:

- How good is the on page SEO?
- How good is the technical SEO?
- Does the main domain has a lot of authority?
- is it a standalone social profile (medium) or a social media (facebook / twitter) > in the last case internal linking is very important

Trying to push up one single page that is currently on page 3 will likely be difficult. On top of that, one PBN isn't going to be enough to push any result from page 3 to page 1.

Rather than spending time and money building a full PBN, your money would be better spent buying links with the hopes of moving it up.

Yeah, a single PBN site, unless it's a total monster domain, will not have much of an impact. Depending on the difficulty of the terms you're trying to rank for, you would need several blogs (10+) in a network to get the effects you're looking for. And yes, the PBNs need to look as real/natural as possible. If you don't have the budget to build a decently-sized PBN, you may want to look into other approaches.

Agreed with @BHopkins and @Warrenway. PBN's can be great for ORM purposes for two reasons:

1) Link power to drive up positive results past negative
2) The opportunity for the PBN URL itself to rank for your requested search term

I know with my 60-site PBN, I've had some great success in the ranking department for name-based terms. A couple times, a shot of links from my PBN mixed with some social profiles from providers such as KnowEm or @BuildMoreLinks took over half of the spots in the top 40 results, and then helped to push several of the targeted URL's past negatives for the chosen keyword.

One social style PBN isn't going to do much for you, though. You're better off spending the energy/time/money grabbing links from someone else.

Yes the PBN should always look natural. And yes you can link that to your site. But make sure you use PBN in a way that google doesn't penalize your site.

This is basic SEO. The PBN will work if it looks and functions like a natural website. Whether the end purpose is ORM or not won't matter.

There are extra things you can do for ORM though, like social media mentions and so on.
