These 2 words are maybe the #1 feature that any webmaster want to master: organic traffic.

Let's face it, while I have been into this game since 1995, organic traffic is my weakest link. I just can't get that. All my traffic is pushed by email marketing, CL posting, FB CPA, you name it.

My dream is to build something with an increasing organic traffic and I have a hard time to achieve it. I have made thousands of backlinks, I have made some serious web 2.0 posting, Ezine, squidoo, SEO, keywords search, directory links, all of them, SB, xrumer, original content, spun content, stolen content, often for months...Same results: 10-12 organic visitors/day.

So, let brainstorm it for an instant. What can we do to increase our organic traffic without any BS, since what I wrote above does not work overall??

I mean your looking for search engine traffic? Or direct type in traffic? I mean the only way your going to get direct type in is if visitors revisit the site enough. What is the site about?

I'd start with exact keyword domain - you get big points for that, the next - good, unique and relevant articles. Of course after you've done your keyword research!

Yes, search engine traffic. I have several dozens site. I'm talking in general here.

You're right. I have a 3 keywords domain/site and it is #1 in google for those keywords. But it's a product that nobody cares, so it's kind of easy to get #1 and I have like 10 uniques/day. It's a one page site with a unique and relevant article presenting the product.
But I have other sites, same thing but nowhere to be found because the competition is higher...
Beside, lots of site are #1 and/or getting tons of organic traffic and the keywords are not even in the domain...
For example, I googled " search engine " (global) and only one domain has these 2 keywords in the domain in the first page...

If your looking to rank in a niche which has alot more competition, my advise would be to target the long tail, or secondary keywords first, as they will be easier to rank due to lower competition. Most site owners will want to push for the big volume keywords.

Once you are ranking for multiple lower volume but relevant keywords, your site should have a decent backlink profile, and should also rank somewhere (although maybe not high) for the primary keyword(s), which is when I would start to optimise more for that.

At least with this method, you will start to see some more traffic earlier on, and hopefully make some sort of income or revenue from your efforts until you hit the big one.

If you have looked at all typical avenue's for links - for example article marketing (using AMR or outsourcing), building web2.0 profiles (although you can use software, there are lots of different web2.0 sites which aren't available in software. Perhaps hire a VA to build these for you, then you can scrapebox/xrumer then), and social bookmarking on a big scale, then have you looked at buying relevant links from other sites within your niche?

This is where the long term keywords help, as you can re-invest the money you make from these to buy relevant links from high authority sites which should boost your rankings nicely. Most niches have some sites which will sell relevant link ads, whether it's an association for your industry, an information blog/site or a high quality link directory.

Go back in time, write 1 article a day from when you started out.

You'll have a 6000 page site and lots of organic traffic. Trust me.

I tend to agree with your statement.
Actually, my highest organic traffic site (4 y/o) has the traffic from articles. I don't do 1/day but I have about 1500 articles so far. All uniques. And I always put at least 5 tags for each. It works well. If I do a search for the tags, I can find the articles with their title and their tags. So, with 1500 articles, I really have 7500 results with tags. But, that site brings me between 75 and 90 uniques/day and $1-$5 adsense/day. Not much for the work.
When you go on Flippa, you can see brand new site having thousands of uniques/day according to their GA, which I do not believe to be real TBH.

Yup. It is the best way. I think research helps - getting the right titles that you know has manageable competition and a bit of potential traffic.

My main site is about 5 years old, gets 10k per month and makes about £500 per month. Agree with you, it's hard work.

Working on a new blog now, buying articles based on good keyword research, then planning to do some light backlink building on certain posts with high potential searches. Will see how that goes...

Content, links, social media. In that order. In my opinion, if you want serious traffic, you should start out with a content plan. GOOD content is so much easier to rank than shit content. For each page of content, you need to build a solid link profile to it.

GOOD links. Guest posting is my favorite way to build real links that stand the test of time. And then you need to build links to your links. This is where spammy links play their part in my strategy. I don't touch my main sites with spam, just the links that point to my site.

If you do your content right, social media should be cake. Hit every single social media site you can think of and start engaging the users. Push your site like a crack dealer pushes crack.

So what is good content? A 500 article sure as hell isn't. People want photos, videos, funny stories, reviews from trusted people in your niche, interviews from industry leaders, ballsy content that people talk about, and intelligent commentary from the sites users. The sites with good traffic have a professional content strategy, as this is the fundamental aspect of a website.

What are good links? In content links. Hard as hell to get, but they are out there. The best way to get them? Relationship building. A real link builder builds relationships first, and then the links seem to come. For example, I am in the real estate niche. I go to web conferences, meet ups, and I teach all these dumbass Realtors how to use web 2.0 and social media to drive business to their sites. In exchange I guest blog for them and I ask them for a link. It works, your industry may be different, but it's up to you to get creative.

How to use social media? Create some funny ass content, make a viral video and post it to all the social media sites, pay some people to Digg your articles, pay some people to stumble them, hell create a sub-reddit on Reddit and invite everyone in your industry to post their information on your sub-reddit.

This shit ain't easy no more.

Nice post. Sums it all up really! I have a big list of to-write posts. Some I farm out then I write some myself as I'm working on a niche I know allot about.

Content is always the hardest bit though because it's time consuming.

How many articles do you have on your blog doing 10K uniques/month?
How many articles do you buy every month? 30 to make it one a day?

Site is about 2500 pages. Have forum and question and answer service which helps create regular content.

Also have done lots of manual link building and bought some high quality links so has good PR.

Done lots of SEO work as well.

90% of traffic comes from google.

It's my baby. But it's getting hard now, need to get it to the next level.

    Nice post hispdcha.
So, I can get nice results by writing an article, post a genuine comment on a nice ranked page with that article URL with anchor AND scrapboxing that comment page URL, right?

    I have a PR1 blog with 1890 pages/4 backlinks in google and 812/609 in Yahoo. It brings me 1900 uniques/month and $40/month.
There is clearly something you do much better than me :)

Organic traffic gives you real user plus more business for any niche. There are several ways to choose the best keywords for your website to increase your organic traffic of your website. If you follow the following steps you can get more traffic than any other website.

    • Be specific with niche and find your main competitors?

    • Fetch their main keywords, and browse google.com/sktool fill the form and select your keywords (Note: Do not select keywords have low competition).

    • Search these selected keywords in different search engines and check out who is your main competitor with that particular keyword.

As I said the sites been going 5 years. It's been mostly White hat and high quality content - we have a newsletter on the site that we pay £200 per month for (written by a financial journalist), also spend $100 per month on links and spend several hours per month promoting it on other forums.

Have three twitter accounts as well that post forum, FAQ and site news via rss and have total of about 12k followers.

Spent loads of time on on page seo - down to every last detail. As well as load speed etc.

Also as I said, have done lots of manual link building - and I mean emailing and phoning and chasing people getting link exchanges on big sites - I think that helps alot.

Still struggling though. Only ever made money from advertising (mostly adsense), really want to start selling a premium edition of our newsletter so need to change the whole model a bit...

Ps if your site is high quality, follow my signature and buy some links to it - do some research - stats first and find out what keywords being you most traffic - and what position your at for them (nothing like practical analysis), then take those terms and run them through google keyword tool or wordtracker or something and find out the competition etc.

Then work out which is your best keyword (you might be getting 2k visitors from a term where you rank 4th - that's a good target). Then buy some good links aimed at that keyword, wait a good few weeks and see the results.

That's the best move I made.
