optimizing home page to rank inner pages!

Hi,
I have noticed that a strong home page will result in your inner pages to rank rather quickly.
We launched a new site about a month ago. The homepage has very general text about the plumbing service. in the 2nd paragraph I have included a link to various inner pages buried within relevant sentences. I have also created a direct link to each page in a drop down inside the <body>.
All the inner pages are identical to the home page cosmetically to act as landing pages but they are optimized around kws for surrounding cities.
Furthermore, the title and kw density of each page including the homepage text is only on 1 kw--> plumber in main city.

Am I wasting the power of the homepage?
Am I missing any more optimization than done as stated?

The best thing to do is to have your home page target a different thing or rather talk about what your site is all about.

And also simply have the pages listed in the menu rather than the content..

You should borrow example from the top sites in your niche..

Just Google it and see...

Basically, the title, description, keyword tag, images and content are the optimization you need to carry out.

Ranking on the serp is via backlinks which i believe you have the idea since you are fully aware that authority site inner pages rank easily, that's f**king correct..
 
Your home page should be your brand or more general and higher search volume keyword/keywords, inner pages are where you rank your specific/long tail keywords. You backlink and optimize ALL YOUR PAGES for the keywords you want to rank them for. Having a well optimized and well backlinked homepage helps your site authority and rank for all internal pages.
 
Page rank flows with OBLs, you definitely can link to inner pages and it will icrease their authority. THe best place to link inner pages is menu which gives useful sitewide links. But it should be wisely done. ALso you can rank well without linking from home page.

I wrote good qualty and optimized content for one site, without any SEO, the inner pages came on 6th page for main keywords. SO it depends how u work.
