So I have been doing a lot of research on BHW...And I am starting to understand a lot...link building, diversity, do follow, nofollow links, ways to make it look more natural for google, social book marking, web 2.0, keywords, Keyword research, etc.

There are a couple of things that I am completely clueless to. I may sound like an idiot, but that's fine with me.

<h1> tags How do I incorporate them into articles?
Anchor Text....Do I anchor it to my site? Is anchor text always keywords?
Basically, I don't know how to optimize my content for SEO. I have tons of content already written...tons...(50 plus original articles 500+ words each) that I am stockpiling before the launch of my new company. My company is a service. I am not an affiliate marketer, or trying to sell another persons products. If you can recommend a book, I'd be very thankful. Or even better, help me on here! Any step by step guides anywhere? Thanks guys!

h1 tags should be used for the title of your article ie.
Code:
<h1>Blue widgets everything you need to know</h1>
<p>article paragraph 1...</p>

poster above me described how to use anchor text for links

50 plus 500 word articles is great! Look up some long tail keywords in your niche and you should definitely start seeing some traffic if you optimize those articles.

Also - i wouldnt post all of those articles at once. Post a few every day.

I was going to leech them out over a month. We are launching in two weeks or so, and I've been banging out 4 or 5 articles a day. I'm really preparing for the launch. I think this is my BIG idea in life and possibly something I could leave a mark on the world with.

So using the code above, if I am writing on my wordpress blog, I just copy and paste that code in and it works? What if I submit an article to ezine... Sorry if I sound stupid, but my coding knowledge is minimal....

TrepSpirit,

Even though your questions are basic, these are concepts even professionals should revisit frequently.

H1 tags (or header tags) can be incorporated over any body of text and they are meant to describe (both of users and for search engines) what the body of text will be about. Their numbers indicate their relative importance (and size produced) on the page. H1 will appear as the largest on down to H6. For optimization purposes, you can include a keyword phrase in your H1 tags and then again in the body of the text underneath it. Just remember that if you include a keyword in the header tag, make sure the body of text is about that keyword. Ideally, you will want to build each page on your website around a single keyword.

Anchor text is simply the text that is encased within an anchor tag. An anchor tag is used to create a link to another site. In answer to your question in a reply to another member's answer, you can copy and paste the code provided or <a href="www.exampleURL.com">Text to link</a> this code. Note that there are other elements that you can add to an anchor tag to make it do different things such as a no-follow attribute or making the link open a different browser window when clicked.

The term anchor refers to the tag itself and doesn't really relate to anchoring it to your website. You can have anchor text anywhere (ie on your site or on another web property). Search engines typically place more weight on keywords that are anchor text however you will want to vary your use. Try not to use too many exact match keyword phrases in your anchor text and instead use synonymous words or only parts of an exact match phrase.

Here is a good tutorial on the <a> tag,

Here is also some good information on anchor text,

Hope that helps you,
