I had a search and couldnt find any info that answered this question so hope some of you have a few ideas they can share.

Are there any major differences in optimising a site for Bing & Yahoo, when I have launched a new site in the past I have done a mixture of backlinging strategies and usualy find that this works for the three main search engines, Yahoo and Bing have always been easier to rank with in the past and I usualy find that Google takes a bit longer.

Recently I have noticed a change with Google ranking for keywords faster than Bing & Yahoo, like most people my main focus has always been Google because G drives more visitors purely because of its popularity for search.

I dont want to neglect Yahoo & Bing though and with one of my sites that is only a few months old it seems to be ranking well in Google but very poor for Yahoo & Bing.

Does anyone have any tips that are specific to Yahho & Bing?

dont need to worry about yahoo, as it uses Bing's search engine now. If you do a rank check on yahoo and Bing, the results will probably be identical.

In my experience Bing is particularly susceptible to blog comments. Despite blatant blog comment spam on a large scale my rankings rocked top 10 for nearly all the kws.

However, Google will slap you for this. It's difficult because, in Google tiered structures work better but, in Bing direct linking seems to be key in my experience.

I wrote a scraper to pull top 100 results from google, yahoo, bing and compared backlinks, PR, and keyword density for a dozen broad term and a dozen long tail keyword phrases and noticed a pattern that bing preferred a higher keyword density. I plotted all the data to a bar graph. From the tests I ran, there was almost 12% higher on average keyword density on yahoo and bing for the top ranking terms. Sites that ranked for all three had in common a higher keyword density AND PR. If you treat PR as a multipler it makes sense that if google doesn't like high density keyword pages then the PR offsets that negative on page factor and everything evens out. I have followed this strategy for multiple projects and ended up with page one rankings on all three serps. Hope this helps.

like someone said, just spam away. The more spam the better. Bing And Yahoo are not as powerful as google and have very limited processing power. Techniques that will get you in trouble with google will skyrocket you in Bing And Yahoo.

Thanks for the replies, I think that the observations on keyword density and just plaing mumbers of backlinks are all relevent. It does seem that if I spam a load of blog comments it improves Bing?Yahoo but has very little effect on Google serps.

I think there was something in the downloads section a while back that talked about ranking in bing. I don't think it had bing in the title though. Can't remember what it was called.

I'm finding that my SERPs in Bing are slowly starting to mirror Google's. It seems to take longer in Bing for me to rank but the rankings also seem to stick better. Many sites that I may have a top 10 with google after a time usually end up with better rankings in Bing.

Just do what you normally do for Google. Continually getting links will eventually get you ranking in Bing too.

Yes totally agreed on this one. Bing and Yahoo are working together now. You still need to optimize for Google if you want to stay in the game.
