Hi all

I'm currently working with a cleaning business.

The business covers a wide area, but they have an office space in one town, which is also their main target market.

Currently we have been ranking in the top 3 GMB and 4th position for "service name + town" on the company home page. I have optimised the homepage around this town.

We also have dedicated locaation pages for the other towns they serve, all of which are on page 1, and the homepage ranks in the top 3 map pack for most of these towns.

For the main town where the company is situated, i was wondering if i should stop optimising the homepage for this town, and instead create a location page for it, and use the homepage to target service + wider county area.

My reasoning for this is all of the competitors have a dedicated page to the town we're located in, so Im wondering if having a page dedicate to that, optimising the URL etc would be enough to help us break into the top 3 in regular serps, and increase position from 3rd in map pack to 2nd or 1st?

What are your thoughts?

Bringing this up
I asked the same question and got no reply. I recently updated 2 sites to be location and started them with just a homepage hitting everywhere. I have noticed now that I added location to pages google stills sees and rank my homepage off the page internal links lol. I have one location page randomly being seen on a keyword.

I am not sure how long the process takes, I made the change 2-3 weeks ago. I am doing this for google sites and a Wix page. In the process of building and learning wordpress and elementor and going to try it again there from the start.

So did you drop location from home and just create on sub page?

It can be helpful to have a dedicated location page for the main town where the company is located, especially if your competitors have dedicated pages for that town. By creating a dedicated page, you can provide more detailed information about your services in that specific location, and optimize the page for relevant keywords. This can help improve your visibility and ranking in search results for that town.

At the same time, it's important to consider the overall strategy for your website and how the different pages and content fit together. If you decide to create a dedicated location page for the main town and focus the homepage on targeting the wider county area, it may make sense to ensure that the homepage provides a clear overview of your services and how they are relevant to the county area, and that it includes links to the individual location pages for the towns you serve.

Overall, it's a good idea to consider the specific needs and interests of your target audience in each location, and to structure your website in a way that meets those needs and helps you effectively reach and engage with potential customers.

I removed all details of location from the home page and made pages for each location. Thanks for the subpage idea though. I have not tried that approach, documented

Yep, this is exactly what I am trying to do and have done. I don't know how long it takes for google to pick up the signals

So I resolved my issue with this question. 2 Points

1. All your keyword signals should be located on the page you want it to go

2. Biggest Issue and I am still working on it. Internal Page indexing!!!

Just because the whole page is indexed and you numbers doesnt mean the internal pages were.
No excuses but I am still a newb being sub one year into SEO Long story short I am constantly indexing pages until I see them indexed

I saw one of my Location pages today ranked on the first page

If you run an e-commerce website you need to do homepage optimization only. even if you can run multi-niche sites you must do the optimise separately with the homepage too. this is my experience.

It is not e-commerce. All of my competitors are outranking me do to having a location page. Some time has passed since I made adjustments. My homepage dropped a but my location pages on all sites jumped a bunch once google recognize some of them.

After I see where the dust settles, maybe will add keywords. I am curious if my homepage should have any of the keywords I want to rank on for home pages.

A fast way to get your pages indexed is to use YouTube since it’s googles property make a quick video about the company and services, put links to the pages you want indexed in the description. Spend $10 and run the video as an ad in your target location (embed the video on your homepage too)
