I'm REALLY trying to save money here and I am having trouble finding a method that doesn't require a website. So I was browsing the Wordpress site and noticed I can get a .com domain for $12 a year, which is well within my budget.

Any experience with these domains? Do they allow affiliate links?

What I'm mostly planning to do is make a website with affiliate links and maybe an email submit (once I figure out how to) and basically sell products. I want to get a lot of traffic from youtube and from other websites.

Anyone else in this situation? What did you do?

collinEm,

I?m not sure which registrar you are looking at for a domain but 12 dollars per year is pretty standard. The only reason you would be paying more is if you were buying from another party that already registered the domain and was re-selling it. Virtually any domain that is not already taken (for .com's, .org's, .net's and other popular TLD's) will fall into this price range.

Not sure if you knew this already but buying the domain will be your first expense and setting up a website will cost a little bit more. You will need hosting for your Wordpress site and basic plans from popular providers run about 60 to 80 dollars per year (which most of the time they require up front). I believe the minimum amount you can purchase would be three months of hosting.

You can post affiliate links on a website that is set up in this fashion. In fact you can pretty much do anything you want (within legal reason) on a website that you purchase hosting and a custom domain for.

Here is a good article on domain name costs. The cost you mentioned is very typical.

Also, if you plan to do some type of submit form on a wordpress site, there are lots of plugins that will do that for you.

Let me know if you have any questions about setting up your website.

Best,

Shawn

I have hostgator hosting. I can host your site for free provided you do not do black hat stuff.

Yeah, like previously stated $12 isn't really a "deal".
GoDaddy domains are $12.99 with any deals or discount codes.

If I were you I would go with BlueHost, it is by far the best web hosting service I have used. They offer great discounts but their original prices are very reasonable for such a reliable hosting company. There are tons of similar companies out there that offer good hosting but I have tried several and none of them offer the type of service that BlueHost does. There support is unbelievable and with the unlimited domain names you can build multiple sites under that one plan...

Good Luck with your website building.

Yep, I am a BlueHost customer and I agree 100%. Not sure why everyone is so obsessed with hostgator.
