Opera vs Brave

Which browser do you prefer?

Which is supposed to be better for privacy. And which would you prefer generally (and why)

Brave. Pretty good defaults for privacy out of the box. Also Chromium based so all extensions that work for Chrome work for Brave.
 
After giving almost every single browser a try (beside the paid ones), I've sticked to Opera. So far, I like it the most. Mostly, design-wise and the way you can use IG, Whatsapp, Telegram, Twitter and other apps right from the side-tab.
 
Brave for some kind of privacy, Opera is fast and have some kind of free VPN
 
I like brave since its similar to chrome, Opera has an entirely different feel to it.
 
Given the two options I will prefer brave

And for privacy I would recommend duckduckgo

For privacy, Brave is better because it is open source, comes with built-in ad blocker. Opera is not open source.
 
There was a scandal not too long ago connected to Brave browser. They were appending their own referral codes to urls without their users knowing, which is rather unethical, if not outright criminal in many countries. When a user entered the name or url of certain cryptocurrency sites into Brave, it would automatically redirect them to that site with Brave’s referral code appended to the url. Would you use a browser like this without having second thoughts? They admitted it and apologized saying, it was an unintentional mistake. Mistake my ass, it was done intentionally.

I have used Opera in the past, something like 15-20 years ago. It was good and fast. I still use it occasionally. Chrome addons work with it. Their built-in free VPN is also great.

But even if you use Chrome and you don't use the default settings, with a fair amount of tweaking you can reach similar level of privacy, what Brave supposedly provides.
 
I've been switching to Opera for years now and I don't plan to leave it yet for another one.
Although, I've already tried many of them. Opera is the fastest browser I've ever used until now and I'm talking about a browser working with a simple 3G+ and 4G in a third world country. I think I have nothing to fear for my privacy too. Firefox might be better for privacy though but it's so buggy and always lagging here. I can't work with it. I'm still using it for some extensions which I don't want to associate with Opera though. And I avoid everything related with Google like a plague. (Yes, I know that Opera works in Chromium, but still)

Wow! I never heard of that. That's very shady of them! I actually prefer Brave for when I want to leave less of a fingerprint, but I always connect with a VPN, and most/all security settings turned on. Too bad, if they really were appending urls with their referral code (without telling people) but that's pretty smart, even if wrong. :smirk:

Brave has been getting into the crypto game. I think they call it "Brave Rewards" but I have not used it, and probably won't
