One quick question about SSL/HTTPS

Hi everyone,

I've read some articles on the Internet that using HTTPS can help to boost your ranking on SERP. So I just bought and set up SSL certificate for my website that is ranking well on Google SERP.
After setting up and review my website, I realized that all my social signals were disappeared...I think my social sharing plugin counts the signals at exact URL, and I also wonder if the SSL could affect my backlinks? I feel worried about my rankings in tomorrow.

If you've tried a similar stuff, please share your thoughts on this. All the answers are appreciated.

The http and https versions are queried for signals and links as two different sites. You can even test this on google webmaster tools, add both versions and you'll see two different stats for both.

You will need to change your profiles on FB and Plus to https and 301 all your http urls to https so you carry over all that juice.

Your signals and links did not disappear, Google is smart enough to carry over, but you'll see them zero cuz https is a different URL.

HTTPS is definitely a ranking signal but it is better to use https with brand new website, form the start. Otherwise you could actually hurt your rankings because from googleś eyes this is new address.

Does you http:// still work? IF not I think you should redirect http to https.

We've applied that way for our site and work!

If your redirection from http to https is well done, google understand what you did. Just make sure to update your site in Search Console and make sure the sitemap only have new version of your URLs. You will see fluctuations until google crawl all your websites but overall, not a huge boost.

if 2 websites have the exact same PageRank (as in actual, not the public signal we used to use) one in HTTP and one in HTTPS, the later will be ranked before

Thanks for your answer. I've installed Really Simple SSL plugin for this website to redirect all http URL to https. is it fine to keep the juices for my site?

I've installed Really Simple SSL to redirect my http to https. What do you think about that? Is it enough? Thanks

It always take time to re-crawl and re-index the site by Google.
Wait for some time and take care about 301 redirection.

Thanks for your advice. I'm going to submit my new URL and sitemap to Google Search Console right now. I use WP plugin named Really Simple SSL to redirect my URL, I think it is fine

After you 301, you can go into the http:// version webmaster tools panel, go to the root URL and "crawl this page and all linked pages" so Google gets all the 301's to https from the root. This will speed up the process.
