One huge post for all related keywords or one small post for each keyword

Hi,

I need to know from your practical experience which road I should take.
I made keyword research and find low competitive keywords and too much related ones and found that they can be done in one log tail huge post (2000 words or so).
I found that the competitors are making one small post for each keyword.

My question: If I write a huge post for all low competitive related keywords in one post will it rank better than theirs? or I should write like them one small post for each keyword?

even small posts can (and should) target more than 1 keyword, so no matter how long the content will be you'll still include related keywords in it regardless.

Topic clustering is very important, and if you can group all of those keywords in extremely relevant clusters I dare predict that you will outrank your competition based on on-page SEO alone. Have a look at this post made by @SoccerLover for topic clustering intel:

If I were in your shoes I wouldn't think in terms of "1 huge post for all keywords or one small post for each keyword", I would instead focus on keyword intents and topical clustering like I said. And based on these 2 extremely important ranking factors I would go with however many posts, and however long content the correct clustering + intent would require

Let's say it's about how to edit Excel sheet and you find many related keywords such as add a column, add a row at a specific position, and many more keywords.

I find that all competitors are writing one post for each keyword.
You said if I can collect those in one post that will be much better. Right?

You also mentioned intent, so if all posts that are targeting a keyword are talking only about :edit Excel sheet and all competitors are targeting this keyword only and nothing else, does that mean the user intent here for small posts and I should write for this keyword only?

I'm really confused!! because if I go for intent, I'd do the same as the competitors and write for a single keyword, and if I write a huge post, I don't know if it will rank or not and maybe it will be a different intent.

One comprehensive guide or one post answers the query only?
Which one ranks much better?

I would suggest writing lots of posts with each one focused on a single keyword … but, also having a cluster of similar keywords, which are internally linked to their respective individual pages.

You can always create another post targeting a broader keyword like "excel shortcuts" or "excel tricks" and interlink everything. But no matter what the new SEO buzzword this week is, whether it's cluster or silo or anything else. The one thing you always have to do is to show the user you have the answer they're looking for in the title. Because no matter if Google pins you to the first position, no one's gone click if they don't think you have the answer they're looking for.

That's just how I work.

You've made a very good point.
Obviously, I'd click the first title even if it's in position #3 or #5.
In my niche... I see many big sites going for option 2... but I don't want to scan through 50 tricks, I just need to know more about one point I'm looking for.

In my opinion you should write a small post for each keyword, it might be better

grouping together multiple keywords that have the same intent (or are closely related to each other in general) is always a smart idea, yes. You'll get extra traffic by ranking for any of those extra keywords with the same page.

yeah, you do look confused

Short or long post, it doesn't matter, honestly. You just need to focus on meeting the keyword's intent, by properly (fully) covering the main keyword that you wish to rank for. Even if you write only 100 words you'll still include at least 2-3 more keywords in those 100 words even if you don't try.

But since you have more keywords that are closely related to each other it makes sense to try and squeeze those extra keywords into the content for some free extra traffic and rankings since it doesn't cost you anything. So, how long your content will end up being should not be your primary goal, your main concern should be to address the keyword's intent by covering it as in-depth as possible without stemming away from the topic.

If all of this still confuses you, ignore it and just do what your competition does. As you become more experienced in SEO you will understand what you need to do, when, and how. But for now stick to what works, and create "short" pages like your competition does
