One Big Blog or Small EMD sites?

Why fear google ;)

What if your content is 100% unique and you sell your own product? Wouldn't having 1 authority site be more profitable? Since it's a brand I'm building and mainly traffic is word of mouth. (will have paid traffic too as time goes on)

ALTHOUGH, it's possible down the line for the sake of learning and experimenting I figured I'd learn about blackhat related things to make money separate from my MAIN SITE and use lists built up and direct people to my main site. So not only will I learn new ways of making money but all of the traffic I can eventually direct to my main project.
Trust me even with this it is good to have mini sites. You can always slap a banner back to your money site on the smaller sites.

I always believed in big authority blogs, but learned a valuable lesson lately...

Some dude made a BIG negative SEO campaign on my authority site (500+ articles, all from the same niche).
Shortly after this campaign have been run (and it continues), i lost nearly all traffic from Google (what equals 75% of total traffic).

When you are big, you catch attention. Good attention and also bad attention... What more, big site is so difficult to keep up and in order to maintain your authority, you need to post regularly. It takes a LOT of time, if we speak about real authority site.

On the other hand, some small EMDs I have can be built in one day completely, including content (8-10 unique articles, perfect navigation). You wait some time, throw up a few Web 2.0 links/ Guest Blogs (again 1 day of work) and viola, you rank top 3 and get decent traffic. Even if your EMD gets only 100 visits a day, in one month you can build 15 such EMDs...

Keep it small, so nobody is interested in you. You do NOT need to update such a site, if you build it the right way for the first time. It's equally good to authority sites + it takes less time and no updates + there is much lower risk included.

GL!

Go for the one big website and use all the other domains for smaller blogs to link to your main website. Blast your small sites with links and if they get penalized, remove the link to your authority site and ditch the micro blog.

I prefer in small ones , they aew easy to rank , earn and don't grab attention to the jealousy so you wont get abused lol

If you cop with the load then keep both.Keep doing web 2.0 backlinks.

I have always found that building one authority site is always more profitable than a bunch of small niche websites, especially if those niche websites are all about one thing. Plus you will have more options to branch out if you go with an authority site.

Since you are not doing any hard spam, I would recommend you build up one big site and establish it as an authority in the games hacks niche or whatever it is. If it's one big site, in the future you can be recognized as the GoTo site for hacks for any game - direct traffic FTW!

Number one rule: Diversify.

Seo isn't as stable as it was in pre-2008. Every year, rankings get less time in the first page before they're thrashed.

Best thing to do is build a ton of small sites and have 1 separate authority brand at the same time.
