The story below is absolutely one of the saddest stories (if not the saddest story) I have ever read. The only reason I would post something so sad, is that it is also the most touching and heart warming act of heroism ever!

BEWARE: This story may very well bring you to tears. I live in dallas, so I seen this on the news, and it brought me to tears. My heart goes out to his family.

Wow! I didn't even realize that a 4-year-old was capable of doing something like that. What a hero! It's so sad that he died, though.

    Just donated some money.

Sad story but what the Boy did was incredible. Very rarely these days do others even care about the people around them.

And what amazes me is that a 4 year old understood how important it was to save another life. That boy must have had amazing role models in his life.

Most of the time I have absolutely no faith in the human race. But things like this partially bring back my hope.

Wow... My Wife and I have been watching Moonshot - and had just gotten past the Apollo fire while I opened up BHW on my other monitor... and then I saw this.

So very sad that we have lost this little boy that had such heroism at such a young age.

May God Bless him, the girl that he saved, both families and the many, many others that are effected by this story.

All I can say is "Wow!". Thanks for pointing this out man. Really touching. If only more people were like this boy.

I will definitely be donating. In this world there are two kinds of people: Sheep and Sheep Dogs. The sheep sit idly by as the unthinkable happens, and the Sheep Dogs step in and do something. This boy was a Sheep Dog if I've ever seen one.. and quite possibly the youngest of them all.

Not much to say when any child dies. It just isn't right.

However, there are many questions to ask...I consider Xander to be a hero for taking charge of those smaller and less capable than himself and I congratulate his parents for teaching him such; but where the *$&% were the parents?

I consider Xander as much a victim as the girl he rescued. Perhaps I am jaded from growing up on an island where swimming is taught at the same age as walking (typically by slightly older silblings), but I still can't remember a time i've ever seen 3+4 year olds swimming without supervision.

This is a tragedy that could have been avoided.

I agree 100% But, the only thing I can really say to that, is everything happens for a reason. god must have bigger plans for someone as special as Xander.

I can't help but want to do something great in Xanders' honor. I was thinking of starting a charity organization that specializes in teaching kids like Xander life saving skills and morals, starting at a young age. We could call it "The Xander Fund" Of course I wouldn't be able to do that right now but it's an idea for the near future.

I rechecked the story and see that he was officially pronounced dead at 3:20pm yesterday. If it was posted last night, I didn't see it... just the story of what he did and that they were planning on removing the life support that day.

Yes, there will be many questions asked about how a 3 and 4 year old were in and near and pool without adult supervision but any parent will tell you, it's amazing any of us live to adulthood. Things happen so quickly that if you turn your back for a moment, anything could happen. The many risks we take as children without knowledge of what we are doing is amazing but natural.

Earlier this summer I finally got my youngest step-son to 'swim' with a floatie jacket and arm-bands. I told him under NO circumstances is he to ever go into the pool without me being in it first (we live in an apartment complex). He understood completely... but one day we were drying off and about to leave the gated pool when he accidently dropped his vest into the deep end. To my utter amazement, he walked up to the edge and was about to jump in after it as it started to float out of arms reach! As I pulled him back he looked at me and said, "But Daddy, I know how to swim now"...

My heart goes out to Xander's family and friends. It hurts me to even think about what they must be going through.

I said it last night and I'll say it again. God Bless him and them. ;)

What a sweet boy. It's heartbreaking that he passed. The world could use more good people like him...
