im going to be starting a new web site for some thing like free iphone, free xbox or some simular just havent decided yet. But if i do the on site seo and then use backlink providers in the service section for backlinks will this be enough to get on first page on google or even rank 1. Or will i have to do more?

you have done the first step wrong .. you need to do a keyword research first it's funny how every noob start his website in iphone or movie niche ... go to download section get some ebooks abt how to do keyword research nd spend a day observing staff ..

why not try and see for yourself. For 10$ you can get hosting + domain (.com one) and try stuff out. that way you will gain the "touch" for it
