So i recieved an email from Oldenstylehats moments ago and things are not looking too good. I will not paste the whole email as it was directed to personal friends and some information has been removed but a quote of the email below will let you know his situation

I've only got about 30 minutes to write this email, so it may be a bit disjointed. I received three very scary pieces of news in the last 48 hours. The site of repair on my kidney has become infected. I was dropped by my insurance company, because I failed to list the ulcers as a pre-existing condition when I applied for insurance. I have contracted what may be pneumonia (pending more tests.) They are treating both with large doses of antibiotics along with various other drips and injections. They have had to lower my allotted dosage of pain killers due to these new medications, which is not helping at all. Every cough results in shooting pains everywhere. It feels like my body is connected to a car battery with a thousand lead wires.

My parents and attorney are looking into the health insurance issue, but I was informed this morning that the likelihood that they'll reverse their decision is minimal. Both parents have told me that they'd help financially if it comes to that. Even with their help, I'll probably have to sell my house to pay for the initial surgery.

I am scared and in a great deal of pain. I have spent a lot of time thinking about what happened and what is happening and what I am going to do and have come to no conclusions. I am worried that I have effectively wasted the last 26.5 years in front of a screen. Most of the people I've made a connection with have been online.

Doctor told me that they need to keep me here for observation for a few more days due to the infection. "We understand your financial dilemma." I'll be here until at least early next week.

I couldn't sleep last night because of the coughing and associated pain. Spent it awake, smelling various cleaning agents in the air, the beeps and bloops that form the ambient hospital background noise providing a soundtrack to racing thoughts; a constant reminder of the technology that has sucked the best years of my life away from me. Staying positive about this entire experience is becoming a real struggle, though I do firmly believe that positive thinking will get me out of here and healthy.

I wanted to write this email to keep you all informed, but also let you know that you are all great friends to me.

Now Oldenstylehats has always been amazing to all of us, and touched many of our minds and I just hate when people run into situations like this. Especially if the guy could have to sell his house to pay for it.....

Now dont get me wrong none of us can understand what hes going through. None of us can make everything better. But as a token of my appreciation and maybe yours too.

I have decided to give his paypal address out for those who wish to give a token of appreciation and a small gesture to help..

zen[@]blackhatzen.com
is his paypal he will not notice any of this until hes out of hospital or after surgery so it will be a nice little suprise when he gets out.

Nowhere near enough to help as his surgery could be 5-6 figures but every bit will help.

More staff members will add to this thread but thats my little say.

GET WELL SOON
. And didnt know whether you wanted this public but I wanted everyone to know how amazing of a person you are.

i don't have insurance, everything's out of pocket.

we are self employed, so don't have an employer pay for insurance. there isn't an insurance program out there that is reasonable enough that we can buy into. to top it off, we also make to much to be considered for public assistance......

needless to say, something has to be done here in the us (not trying to talk politics here) but there are too many innocent people that suffer because health insurance are too greedy to care.

I will be donating soon, he has been good to me and others on here, so we should be going out of our to help him in his time of need, and thanks to those who have donated or will be donating..

Godmonkee

Dude... wow. Really emphasizes the point that, in the grand scheme of things, one's health is wayyy above anything materialistic. So many other things which, unfortunately, get taken for granted are way up there on the list as well. Family, friends, safety... But back to that email, trying to help out someone desperately in need is really the best motivator I can think of to get one's ass to work. Who knows, any one of us could be next.

Good energy and blessings to Oldenstylehats!

As of now its the only contact with him so i dont know of his location to send cards or gifts.
Paypal is all i have for the meantime. I will keep you updated on anything i hear.

I've read this forum for a long time before I decided to register here, and even more afterwards.

Oldenstylehats posts are probably among the first posts that I have ever read and I always respected him (and others) for the amazing share of information that he placed on the table for free just with the intention of helping our community, so my sincere votes of a steady recovery and a good resolution to his insurance situation is the least of what I can say here.

But I can't help not bringing another subject, I can't wrap my mind around of the fact that one of the most enlightened minds on this forum to be thrown into a situation of financial crisis, I mean, even considering that he might be in a situation where his insurance has dropped him out and that he can possible have to personally ending up paying up medical expenses of up to 6 figures as mentioned above.

How is it possible that such an event would affect his financial personal life, obviously no one knows how much money is he making, but when you take into consideration that information posted by himself here is what is helping others making 100k+ a year, how is it possible for him to be making any less than this?

And in my personally opinion, if he is making merely 100k a year, he should have absolutely no trouble paying his medical expenses.

I'm posting this merely as an inquisitive reply, I'm not questioning or flaming what has been said before me, I'm only looking for a sincere and honest answer to what I'm asking here.

My sincere votes of a steady recovery to Oldenstylehats!

I feel your pain. If you're not part of some kind of employer-provided group plan you pretty much get shit on by health insurers. Government-run health care, eh... the US government can barely run the post office. Better than nothing, I guess.

Come people everyone need to help. Just think if it was you or a family member in that situation. Everything and anything matter's. I will donate soon and i will say a pray for him also. But i am glad he is staying positive through this situation. And he is right his positive mindset will get him out of the situation. Get WELL OLDEN
