threads that haven't received a post in 30 days should automatically close themselves. after that, only the thread starter can reopen them by posting to their own thread again.

No they shouldn't. Some older threads are barely touched BUT contain the most valuable info you'll find here.

I agree. I've seen a few where OP has provided info usually software that no longer works and someone wants it UL'd again. It's always good to check the initial post date before replying or even the last few just in case someone didn't check previously. The same also goes for noobs who post requests without searching.BrandingBaw - A closed thread doesn't mean you can't read it only that you can't reply. You could always just PM the OP if you have a question or wait until you can.

Newer members do this a lot though. I mean, just yesterday I saw someone respond to a question that was asked in 2007 that had no replies to it. Obviously to increase their post count. They still do not understand, it is not about the post count, it's the post QUALITY that matters.

I have seen some old threads getting updated too.
Really don't understand why people want to forbid things that are not useful to them personally. Also: It is not just the newbies bumping skeletons, blue people do it too.

This is more of a UX thing. A lot of times people search for things in the forums and post without realizing the conversation has long been dead.
But if there is something like a pop up notifying a user (Whoa, there hasn't been a reply in x months, are you sure you want to continue?) it might deter some users. However some threads (shit list threads, downloads section etc) need to be bumped if there isn't a resolution or if files need to be mirrored etc.

but no instead they type it and re float a post like the titanic coming
back for a re - run.
its like sales threads in certain parts of the forum that have been
dead 1/2 yrs where the thread owner hasnt been active on that sales
thread for say 12 months or been logged in bhw for even longer
and along come sir noob of shakespear posting
i see though thread has had no post - nay let me post here to
revive this dead thread and once more raise it from the depths
to sit aloft at the top > even though its dead..

the silimar threads section below is engageing that. and i dont think it is bad. why should it be bad if i discover a method from 2008 and can ask a question about it?

It doesn't really bother me because when I need to know something I'm using the search function... not sifting through new and bumped threads. Honestly, I'd rather see someone add to a discussion than create a new one. I do agree that someone bumping a thread about a out of date method/software is a little bit annoying.

I check out profiles but don't expect others to do too. While doing so I found this little gem. It had 10 views when I found it.

Even though I don't post here much, spammers, bots, and idiots on this forum is the reason why.
It is pretty frustrating to scour through new posts only to find the only contribution has been some clown writing 'great post thanks'. I don't see how this adds any value at all - just a waste of everyone's time.

I agree as well that after 30 days of no posts should be deleted. But, there raises the issue on opening a thread on an already discussed topic.

People usually do that because: a. They're hoping that someone somewhere will see that they need help and will be obliged to help them in that topic that's been dead for ions or b. lazy to do search and research on the subject that they are so desperately need answers to.
