I started getting into old school R&B lately. (I probably smoke too much weed)

I like listening to it in the car, the real chill stuff is relaxing and given how much I hate driving it's really good not to be stressed out.

I dunno if I totally agree with you.

If you compare much of 90's dance music with the current crop i'd say it's improved. I really like the way the Americans have discovered that early 90's sound and just run with it, some of the new big house and electro tracks coming out will become classics IMHO.

The only thing I hate right now is dubstep. It's not frantic enough to take ecstasy and dance to and no where near chill enough to have on as background music to a house party. Unless some producer finds a new angle it's gonna go the same way as Trance IMHO.

That's probably a good thing tbh.....

I was refer to the 90's rap music to todays rap music, its just terrible now.

I dont really listen to anything other than rap and R&B so I cant really say anything about that, I just love the groov the 90's had

True classic R & B and Soul is from the '60's through the '80's, people. With the '90's it became increasingly mixed (or contaminated, depending on your point of view) with rap/hip-hop. Don Cornelius stopped hosting Soul Train circa 1993 for a reason, namely, he didn't feel right hosting the 'new' music younger people were moving towards, where hip hop was the main accent. One of the members of the Whispers also said at the time, that rap had killed R & B.

Real R & B usually runs on a patient, love ballad melody that is sung, not ranted, whereas rap is a quick paced flow whose tone is typically boisterous or angry. It's not an accident that soul ballads then started to be called "slow jams" in the '90's (to signal to current listeners with short attention spans that it wasn't the dominant quick tempo hip-hop sound). Second-generation R & B of the '90's going forward is either relegated to second rate status, or treated as good mainly as it integrates hip-hop into its genre. Whatever one thinks about those developments, the '60's-'80's R & B that preceded it (which was not-influenced by rap) is the true classic version of the form.

This whole album.

I saw them live last year for their 20th anniversary tour. Some of the best live music I've ever seem. The energy and atmosphere was insane.
