Updating old posts often gives quicker wins, especially if they already have some traffic or backlinks.
I usually refresh titles, add new info, improve internal links, and match search intent better.
New content still matters, but updates are often the easier lift for traffic gains.

Agree with the refresh crowd. If an old post has some backlinks, a quick refresh (stats, new Qs people actually search for, a sharper title, better internal links) can push it back up fast. I’ll still publish new stuff, but the mix tends to beat hammering out fresh posts from scratch. Results vary, but I’ve seen solid gains with the refresh path.

I’ve seen old posts pick up steam way quicker once I gave them some love, especially if they already had a few decent links. I usually map out which posts still get a bit of traffic and start with those, fix the structure, add missing bits, and link them from newer pieces. It’s kind of a low effort shortcut while new content slowly warms up.
When the older post is already generating impressions well , i will start by refreshing it. some new examples improved internal linking and correcting out of date information has proven more re warding than creating an entirely new post.
