Just have to make sure you tier your blasts correctly these days to get the maximum amount of link juice possible without getting sandboxed.

Dude, Spam is not dead. You just may not listen to G. Always do the EXACT opposite of what they say = win.
My experience:
Just the other week i took 15 english articles+google translate, broke it down to 1 sentence per line with notepad and used that as articles (50 random sentences per article), built 4k article links and blasted them with scrapebox. Page ranked.
I really dont know where all this "spam dead" rumour is coming from. It works better than ever. Even if you play aggressive.
I know 1 page is not a good sample size, but it shows that G obviously still has problems to seperate good from shit.

Spam still works, it is just the matter of what kind of spam do you use.
If you are talking about comments spam and forum profile, I would say YES to that too.
But for social bookmarking, web 2.0, High PR network and social signals, it still works till now.
