I was once like you afraid of google.

A client of mine received a notice about unnatural inbound links. This was particularly scary because rankings started to drop and i was doing some pretty shady stuff. Moving on.

I didn't know what to do so i lied and told them that it must have been a competitor. They responded with a canned response. I tried again. Same thing. Finally after asking them what links they sent me 3 examples. They were forum signature links from years ago. So i removed them and put myself into reconsideration again. Nope, another canned response.

I thought that i was done for. And i was going to absolutely lose this client. But then i decided to try one more thing.

I took every link google webmaster tools had on my client and disavowed all of them. Resubmitted the site for reconsideration and BAM accepted.

I then changed the disavow to only reflect what i thought were shit links and i've not only been in the clear my rankings have shot up.

There is no other way around this 'penalty'.

So all GWMT links that show up are bad? I have some shady ones on a client's website but had no unnatural linking. Rankings have been awesome but dropped 2 months ago. However, those shady links were from a year ago. I can't put my finger on the bad links, as some porn ones might not be that bad but they 'look' bad to me ie. xxxfxxk.com (example,)

Do you reckon I should remove them?

The thing with the GWMT is it's hard to tell what exactly caused you to get the penalty in the first place. It's just i found disavowing everything that wasn't 100% legitimate did the trick for me. After i got my accepted back into the serps message i altered the disavow to only disavow the really garbage links.

Don't remove them, just disavow them.

Did you submit any kind of report at all with your reconsideration request?

I did this technique. It's just over a month later and I had the penalty revoked. I can't thank you enough. Obviously I can't exactly estimate the money this saved me/made me but its a lot. My recommendation to everyone is watch your "download latest links" like a hawk and make sure to copy and paste them into your disavow as soon as they are updated. I missed an update to this link list and my site was audited a day or two later, resulting in my initial reconsideration request being rejected, so I could have probably saved myself three weeks had I been paying closer attention. I received a reconsideration to my site about every two weeks. My reconsideration requests were really pretty vague and generic. I didn't name any SEO firm I had used. I made mention of what techniques I had focused on, mostly directories and press releases. I sent them some updates here and there in emails about what I was doing to clean up the site but I honestly fudged some of the facts. What ultimately made the difference in my opinion is that the disavow included every bad link they had on me over the last several months. Plus a lot of the bad links had fallen off because I had been using Sape. Another recommendation I would say would be to avoid using any service that claims to have a huge network of links that may include some Sape charging between 150-400$. What they are really selling is ALL Sape links lol. While google may not have every site figured out according to the Sape network they know that its not natural that you have 500 .ru sites pointing at your money site. Anyways, thanks again and good luck to everyone!

he disavowed everything. probably a good idea. maybe manually check the ones that you feel would be good. I would think G can tell the difference in a spammy backlink and a legit backlink.

Getting google webmaster tools had on my client and disavowing all of them was really a good idea. Expect some good changes within next days.

So if you used shady tricks on back links and get penalized, disavowing tools can help you get back to the ranks and turn the penalty around?
I hope someone still reading this. =)
    Thanks
