offsite SEO, promote general domain or article url?

When doing offsite SEO, meaning anchorlink with keyword, do you use the url to your main domain or do you use url of your full article link?

Depends on whether you're trying to rank the page or the article...

Build links to the asset you're trying to rank. Building them in tiers passes the juice down the line (although it dissipates as well).

I do both. Anchor link to my main site (mysite.com) as well as to the pages (mysite.com/black, mysite.com/hat, mysite.com/world). Each pages focus on single KW.
So you Probably link all your KW's.
