Offpage SEO Vs Onpage SEO

I have a question regarding offsite SEO and Onsite SEO. I am currently looking into creating my first niche site. I've read up a lot on keyword research and a lot of other general SEO stuff.

While doing my research with market samurai I found quite a few keywords where the competition has little or no onpage SEO (meaning the Title, URL, DEC, and Header tags don't mention the keyword I am targeting)
but they have a good amount of backlinks good pagerank etc

Which is more improtant? Onpage SEO or Offpage SEO?
When I check the anchor text of the backlinks they aren't targeting my keyword.

Does that mean If I create a site around that keyword, build backlinks with my keyword anchor text I should rank in the top 10 soon?

The keyword I am targeting has aprox 680 daily broad searches and 33 exact daily searches.

I am planning on starting a niche site that promotes clickbank products around this niche.

The domain name that I plan on using is keywordHQcom

Based on this info anyone with experience think I should go for it? Am I missing anything?
This would be the first step into IM and I would really appreciate your suggestions.

Simply put Off site SEO is far more important than on-site SEO.

simply, no point of comparison.. both are equally important. Even if you have a good offsite seo, but have a crappy on site seo, you won't rank at all, vice versa.

Good on-site SEO is your foundation...

Most CMS systems like WordPress will take care of this for you; and as a new starter, I presume you'll probably be using WP. So most of this will be done for you.

Good content is the next part of good on-site SEO, and this is vital. Ensuring original and unique content is paramount, and avoid over-optimisation by over-using keywords in an unnatural way.

But once this is done; you can pretty much forget about it. Off-Site SEO, or basically link-building and social signals, is what will create your rankings.

But yes: on-site is important in that you don't want to waste your off-site efforts by bad site structure and design.

They're symbiotic; and either one done badly can damage the other. But at the end of the day, it's off-site that will make or break your success.

Both are important actually.

Really depends on the keyword competition, first page competition and many other factors.

Off-page SEO is more complex and probably more important, but you have to be aware of fact that on-page SEO is base and have to pay attention and make sure everything is done correctly.

You can rank with onsite alone, you can rank with offsite alone.

With both you can rank higher.
