So I've been churning this idea around in my head for the past few months, ever since I got money desperate (I'm back now, though). Everyone has seen those jars on the cashier's counter of convenience stores and small restaurants. I've seen one that read "proceeds will go to support [name] in his deployment to Iraq. [name] is someone I went to school with. He's freaking loaded. Any excess money would be spent by him and his new wife on cocaine and other illegal drugs. He doesn't NEED this money at all.
I have initials. We all have initials. Mine are AL. Not really, but for this purpose I'll say my initials are AL. My initials are AL. Here we go:
Off to the local grocery warehouse for a gallon plastic jar of mayonnaise or ketchup. Bought. Total spent: $4. Some people have the equivalent laying in their garage or basement or spare room. Total spent for them: $0. Contents emptied (or choose to use it) and jar thoroughly washed. Small slit cut into the top of the jar, big enough for coins and he occasional dollar bill.
Locate following: Sharpie. Write, in nice, legible script (take your time), [initials here] Fund. Proceeds go to help the [initials here] Fund. Rinse and repeat to your hearts content.
Drive to the next town, where nobody really knows who you are or what you do. Find little convenience stores and mom and pop diners/restaurants, car washes, antiques stores (can't stand them), on and on. Ask politely to place jar at counter. Come back in a few weeks to collect. Do this for every jar you made.
Some find this immoral. I find it as a real-life method of forcing those with disposable income to assist another party (you) in their needs. Just liek another donation. Half of all donations never reach the intended beneficiary anyways. NO different then Craigslist scamming. Enjoy!
