I was just wondering, i've found the perfect niche but the domain i want is taken for the uk (co.uk) but the .com is not taken so i was wondering would i still be able to rank number 1 easily for the uk even though its a .com or will .co.uk out rank me for uk searches?

Or would you think it'd be better to get a different domain type like .org or .net? Just im basically planning to get the niche to rank #1 and then selling advertising space on it, i bit like the Guaranteed $10K a month online/offline hybrid method

You can use a .com without a problem. If you don't specify geotargeting, it'll take the IP address as a base (country). You can also add it to Google Webmaster Tools and explicitly list it as UK Geo targetted.

You can rank it for sure with no issues but u might have conversion issues if all the other sites on the page are co.uk...your .com will look a little be odd there...
