Hey BHW's, I have a recent acquaintance and friend of mine who's owns an offline brick and mortar business and he's just getting into the online scene.

I helped him improve his business by building him a few landing pages and doing SEO on his LP's and Main website, which caused his sites to rank very well and bring in good business.

Some of the methods I used:
*Building quality backlinks (social bookmarking, blog commenting, other high pr websites .edu's and .orgs)
*Purchased redirected traffic from BHW to his site to increase activity etc.
*Optimized his websites and added more unique content to everything

Now our newly established relationship is dwindling because another SEO firm is telling him that everything I did is borderline illegal and that his company could get in major hot water with Google and other search engines etc. and potentially destroy his business.

Can anyone please verify that what I have done for him is not bad?

I use these methods and then some on my own websites and I have never had any problems.

Got to love SEO companies. Biggest scam online. I would say 80% of them are just stealing money from people. Just look at it this way. If they where really that good they wouldn't be doing it for other people, unless of course you are like me and only do it for $X,XXX or $XX,XXX.

Nothing you are doing is illegal man. Just simple SEO techniques. Just think of it this way. If it where illegal, why wouldn't I just do all blackhat stuff to my competitors website to get him in trouble.

Just talk some sense into your buddy. The fact that he is trusting some random SEO company over his friend is shitty as it is.

You did not have any idea what you are doing? I think the best option is to ask him specifically what is wrong with your SEO techniques.

That's kinda bullshit if you ask me. I would consider the way they are trying to get his business is unethical or you could maybe say blackhat.

offer a sit down with him and the new seo company.
that should shut them up.

look at him and ask him bluntly, what part of this would you feel is illegal?
if it was illegal, google wouldnt be ranking sites #1 by doing this!

Borderline does not mean over the line.
The SEO company is jealous.
Blog commenting may be considered as spam in most cases.
I wouldn't be worried.
Go figure...

what is the problem here?

tell the other company to STFU and mind their own biz.

its that simple.

The SEO company is just pissed because you did a better job than they can. Don't sweat it. If it was illegal, there would be some government agency tracking down people spamming wordpress blogs.

You did proper SEO, and built good quality backlinks.

If you used xrumer or scrapebox and blasted 50k comments, I could see where the SEO company is coming from saying "borderline illegal". Still, it is not illegal. They are just jealous.

Tell them to ******** off or you will get on Halo and find some skiddy bad-ass ethugs to DDOS their site offline for a week straight.

I find a bigger part of my SEO duties isn't just the SEO but keeping the client calmed down when they get prospected to death by fly-by-nighters!

It's a PITA but I really try to keep the client in the loop throughout the process telling them what and why I'm doing such and such.

Something that has helped quite a bit is to ask my client to Google SEO and see if the marauder comes up on page 1 and if they don't (which to date they never have) then maybe they might not be the best choice for SEO.

And no I don't come up #1 for SEO either but I typically establish a relationship with a client for other things and usually they get around to asking can you...

I say sure but make no claims or guarantees and don't try to gouge the living daylights out of the client.

Haven't lost a client yet but do have some worrisome clients that need quite a bit of reassurance.

it's a nice story to say Im only getting you links from other people in your niche etc etc

but lets be honest that is not how it really works for most people.

I like that the SEO firm is telling the friend that it was "borderline illegal"..... that should be the first red-flag that they are full of sheite. I can only imagine local law enforcement trying to prosecute a BH SEO case! Freakin' hilarious! After that, I'll sick them on my spambox.

this is too funny...simple seo is now boarder line illegal...hahaha

If you are looking for another offline business to promote online let me know I can get a job for you.

the other seo company is just in the owners (and your) head. sit down with the company and reassure them working with you is worth the time, or just move on. tell the owner your competition is trying to get your business and probably wont be the last. tell them you appreciate their concern over the matter and expressing the problem to you bc they do trust you. youve been given a golden opportunity to concrete your relationships and maybe land some additional referrals. lay the mortar and set it. if they keep hassling you, drop them and leverage you doing businesss with your current company into one that isnt a pain in the ass. ball is in your court. theres nothing illegal about seo unless your making false claims that you cant support

The fact that your friend is suspecting you of what you're doing tells about your friendship, i say let him be with the seo company and be ripped off!

:bugsbunny Amazing, we are borderline illegal with Google, that is criminal

I too hear this kind of crap from clients from time to time. Bullshit. Even had one supposed SEO guy tell one of my clients that blackhatworld was a waste of time and filled with only false information. what a moran.

kinda off topic but does fake traffic in modest amounts help a site rank better when that site gets about 50 hits a day naturally?

drive to their office. bring a bat. knock their teeth out with it.

problem solved.

old skool.

There is nothing you are doing that is illegal, immoral or fattening.

Anyway, how much do you charge this guy for your services? Maybe he will think you are more legitimate if you raise your price.

i believe it does.. i asked this very same question a few weeks ago and i got
a mixed response. my site was a dentist site position 9 on the front page
of google for 2 months so i hit it with 50 fake visits using scrapebox then
BOOM 1 day later i was at number 1
i think that google looks for activity on your site as well as backlinks and seo etc
