Just got this email from them 10 minutes ago.... What do you think of their "new features"?

Today we relaunched oDesk as Upwork. Upwork is a new name, and also a new platform for connecting you with great talent, faster and more easily than ever before.Starting today you'll begin to see many new features roll out, including:

  • New messaging tools for faster collaboration
  • Real-time interviewing with freelancers who are ready to work
  • A new mobile app for iPhone and Android
  • A new Hiring Hub with helpful ideas, articles and guides
You'll see familiar oDesk functionality and your existing profile, but with a lighter and more mobile-friendly design. We'll keep you updated as new features are released?beginning with this post introducing Upwork. As the company's new CEO and former head of product development, it's an honor to welcome you to Upwork!

I didn't get the email yet, but I did of course notice the change when I logged in a short while ago.

I don't rightly care what they call themselves - as long as they deliver what I need them to deliver, I'm happy. That is, a supply of contractors as needed, and a platform to manage them.

They definitely needed to get a "quick messaging" system installed.... it seemed every time I would list a job the first thing a coder writes is "add me on skype so we can go over the details"

The new site is so much better too. Elance merged with oDesk in late 2013 so I'm sure this has something to do with it.

It's exactly the same as it was before, from what I can tell in using it for the last few hours..?

Brand name is awful, upwork? Makes me sound like I'm gonna be doing more work rather than less.

However the features they mention could be powerful, I'm curious when they will combine the elance/odesk marketplace officially? Is this the start?

Another question - oDesk set minimum hourly rates of $3/hour. Did elance as well? Are there any good freelance hire sites available that don't enforce minimums?

Still basic project > Fiverr.com
Medium project > Odesk/Upwork
Bigger project > Elance.com

I've heard it's gonna merge with the Elance.
By the way guys is anyone here who sells Odesk reviews and old Odesk accounts?

Elance and oDesk has merged already, right? Still don't know what to do with the odesk app installed. Will it still track time? Lol.

They Don't have plan to combine both marketplace and Elance hourly rate is 3$ from the 1st time they start.

Their Company Merged.Not their marketplace

Hadn't heard about this until now but having visited the new website, the design seems to be much nicer looking. I wonder if it'll be beneficial towards freelancers.

The new name and features are not bad.
Let's see how much more success this name will give to Odesk.

New name, same monkeys... and same 3 day support tickets.

They're just trying to ditch their bad name lol

Elance is having some cloudflare problems and it's driving me crazy. I really hope they keep Elance afloat. I do pretty well there. They promise that they will merge profiles, which is nice. Building a profile on a new platform is not something I look forward to.

I love the quality of freelancers on oDesk.

The same job...
Post on oDesk: $1000, 2 months, poor communication
Post on Elance: $250, 4 days, hourly communication

They are faster and therefore cheaper. I've hired like 50+ from oDesk and a couple from Elance and starting to like it.

Things like "connects" that oDesk now has will improve the quality over the months. There's too much spam on oDesk.

I knew an online job portal that changed its name and added some new features......

... right before Freelancer acquired it! :headache:

This is interesting, because Elance people say it's the other way around. :)

Anyway, they said that they will focus more marketing efforts towards upwork, so I guess I need to move.
