Obtaining competitors traffic?

Hi There,

I had a question for the community. I received a video ad and in this info ad the advertiser who was promoting their marketing business to a niche vertical mentioned "high jacking competitors traffic" for their clients.

This sparked my curiosity, is this an actual achievable method in marketing or was this advertiser using buzz words to bring in leads? Any additional input on the topic is much appreciated

It’s definitely a real tactic but the wording makes it sound more dramatic than it is. Usually “hijacking competitors’ traffic” just means strategies like bidding on competitor keywords in ads, creating comparison content, or targeting similar audiences.

It’s not shady hacking, more like smart positioning to capture people already interested in what your competitors offer.
 
Methods like bidding on competitor brand names, creating alternative landing pages, and content that compares services can pull some of their traffic. It works, but needs careful execution to avoid compliance issues.
 
MetaSaver summed it up good; but there other means to "Hi-Jacking" traffic that some link services do. I am referring to when a link service redirects users to their page, using a link from someone on their platform. That is a different thing; but in your case, it is most likely what MetaSaver mentioned.
 
Oh got it, very interesting. I knew it had to be something explainable like that and was clever wording on the advertisers end. Being able to actually high jack competitors traffic would be nutty.

Also adding other platforms which that advertiser isn't advertising
If he is in Google..he may not be on bing
If he got Google business page
He might not have a bing local page
Or even a simple thing such as support on a large forums
Those are the ways traffic can be hijacked

"Hijacking competitors' traffic" might be about targeting their keywords or audience. It's a legit strategy, but depends on execution. Could be a buzzword, but also a real tactic.
