I didn't know that the internet was only available in the USA...interesting, I guess I have some "book readin' " to do. I apparently really need to catch up to the rest of the world...which apparently consists only of the USA according to law makers.

I read this and don't see how this is Obama requesting this. To me it looks like the proposal was by two senators and it would grant access to the PRESIDENT (who is currently Obama.) Where in this article does it say that Obama requested this permission?

Aww, isn't that precious. The creator of that video is delusional enough to think that anyone, or any large group of anyones, has the power to influence the agenda of the New World Order.

Riiiiiight. If it's gonna pass, it's gonna pass. If it's not, it's not.

Pestering Joey Lieberman's secretary about it won't change anything.

The People no longer have power. Life is easier when one realizes and accepts this bitter fact.

As much debt as we are in maybe we should sell the Internet and pay off the deficit since it is our asset. I bet it would work just as good or better if china or someone had it as their national asset

There's really not much any given country can do to shut down the internet besides broadcast bad routes or find an exploit in BGP/BGMP and attack the core routing protocols themselves.

Nice power to have, in theory. :)

You're operating under the false assumption that the President of the USA is anything more than a puppet; a pretty face on an elaborate Reality-TV-Show designed to divert your attention away from those with Real Power (Bilderberg, anyone?).

The Politicians have no more power than The People. Greater Forces are at work.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think a scrap of tinfoil just fell off my roof...need to go fix it ASAP. :D

I guess it's time to invest in a proper Faraday Cage. I was planning on paying the Mortage this month instead; but I've gotta keep my priorities straight.

    HAHAHAHAHA

You think 220,000,000 people will just let a politician(corrupt) just turn off the internet? Holy crap, I would go slap my senator if this passes, which is in favor of this.

Oh man, think of how many world of warcraft nerds would go bezerk. We've seen what happens in Germany with the angry german kid, now imagine about 10 million of those.

In all seriousness, it's just a way to control the masses. There is no reason whatsoever for shutting down the internet during a crisis. In fact, it would hinder communication of...well facts. For example, if another nation were to attack us, then they could simply say, ok were under attack, shut it down so we can do whatever the hell we want and make up any BS to protect our investment in some other country. They realized this with the 9 eleven attacks and saw how many people uncovered their plans. Lets not go there, but if it was intentional, word still got around to a large group of people, and many politicians lost power because of it.

It's also the corporations like always. ISPs are paying big to decentralize the internet(no regulation = copr does whatever the hell it wants to make as much money as possible), but due to the reactions in other countries, they're taking another approach at it.

Their goal though is to take control of the internet indirectly here. So whenever they need something they will take out the checkbook and get a huge ROI from some politician.

This whole bill thing got me to thinking about why there would be a need to shutdown the Internet. This is an update of cybersecurity policies.

I started to think what legitimate threat could there be to get the president to give an order to shutdown the Internet. Only one thing came to mind. EMP.

Suppose a solar flare, or a known EMP bomb was about to go off.. to prevent massive catastrophic loss, if there was a sort of governmental kill switch to everything, it could effectively save society.

As the Internet is 'now' it's just not possible. However if this becomes a sort of standard it could mean new regulations imposed on networks.

Thinking of the big picture in these types of circumstances, I don't think it might be a bad thing either.

The way it is now is sort of a disjointed mashup of various operations. There is no unity except for the IP authority, but even that is loose.

I don't think most people realize just how fragile everything we got going on right now is. The future of terrorism is in EMPs, and until we have moved to biotech computing and all fiberoptic networks, the entire infrastructure is in danger. That kind of migration will take another 10-20 years. One bad moment though can throw us back to the 1800s in minutes.

These are just some random thoughts that came from this silly video. Another thing is I am so tired of all the partisan political bullshit that the psychosis of the masses subscribe to. It is as much to blame for the disconnect with government than anything else, including the wild secret societies. I hate it. We need non-partisan politics and stop treating the leadership of the world as though it's another sports match.

    Ok I'm done. :)

I agree 110%. But if that were to happen the ICBM's would be launched in no time in response.

I know how quickly it can happen, you're right. Like I said though, if there was a possibility of pre knowledge about it like it the event of a solar storm perhaps then it could help.
