Numbers in domain - do or don't?

I doubt google is smart enough to tell the difference in domains. Like the idea that .info's don't rank. They don't rank because nobody wants to risk trying it, and who wants an ugly .info in the searches?

Google don't give a fuck about numbers in domain. I have one domain with numbers who rank for #1 for 7 very competetyve keywords without problems it even outrank exact match domains lol...

What counts is the % of the domain that is an exact match for the keyword that you are trying to rank for.

So, as an example - using a 7 letter keyword:
"keyword.com" is a 100% match
"keyword1.com" is a 87.5% match
"keyword101.com" is a 70% match

it doesn't really matter if you add extra characters, numbers or dashes (although I would limit it to 1 dash) - You are looking at the percent of the domain that matches your keyword.

In my personal experience, it is also best to have the keyword first, junk last, so:
101keyword.com is not as good as keyword101.com

This only applies to pure seo and obviously doesn't take into account if you are trying to get name recognition / type-in customers, in which case something memorable is more important than a 100% kw domain. (101keyword.com would be fine then).

Keyword match in domain is just one factor and not the only factor, so best not to get too hung up on the domain name. (Matt has hinted that G might try to reduce the effect of this factor in the future anyway).

Think of how it will be for branding purpose. Forget SEO for a while. you already have the keyword in the domain.

those who say that these domains rank well have to give proofs, not me.

Im not a SEO god, i just wanna make it clear that people like you are deceiving others telling shit and that's bad.

well, I don't know about you guys, but I have 2 kewordNUMBER for a very competitive niche and I have great rankings as well as traffic and there are no problems whatsoever with SEO. I am doing all white though...

havent seen many sites with random numbers stuck to them, all the ones i do see floating around seem to be 101's etc.
Think i may be tempted to go grab a couple of domains now and test it myself!

Why would Google ban people with numbers in their domain? How we brand our business/products is totally up to us and in no way would Google start banning people wanting to have a domain for example.

Google does not look at these domains and go "Wait a sec, it's got numbers, seems like spam to me, better ban it!" also don't tell me Google can tell between numbers making sense to random numbers within a domain as that's stating Google understands the meaning of the words in our domains... Bloody damn clever if it can!

As for proof, the reason you don't see domains on the first page of Google with random numbers at the end is most likely due to people not wanting the domain to look trashy. My main site has a number inside, ranked 2nd for a keyword which is very competitive, it's part of the iPhone niche too which is very competitive.

No one in this thread can make claims of anything without factual proof, you have proofed nothing and can't as getting people to type in random keywords to check the first page means nothing at all.

I doubt it, so it's impossible to know the answer unless Google actually states it will de-value domains with random generated numbers at the end of it.

if you want to throw your money in that kind of domain names you're free after all.

Some of them wont get flagged with some luck (there are always a percentage of lucky people), but most of them will be put far away in serps, so i won't loose my time with this. This technique is useless (for me)

It's fine to add numbers in domain as long as you keep it simple and short but not like a plate number. LOL :laugh:

If you dont have a exact match,dont make difference if you will add a word or a number.
