Number 1 Global Search but Page 2 Local

Is this common, attempting to get a local number 1 in google, got local backlinks from other local business but does not seem to have helped.

Any ideas on what im doing wrong.

Also does anyone know of UK Business directories or other free places I can link - done the google maps thing...

So u r on page one in google.com but on page 2 in google.co.uk, right?
I think u should get some local links, backlinks with anchor text from .co.uk domains that could help. Plus ur niche must be related to uk or maybe have the word uk somewhere in the text,url,title may help too :)

Make sure the IP of those local business giving you links are "local" too. :)

No im not - does this mean there is no way to get the #1 with US IP.
 
Of course there is way but it is much easier with UK IP... It seems pretty obvious why do you rank better in global than in local...

My local traffic has increased for 150% when I moved to local server. You should consider getting on UK server.
 
I have no experience in UK market but I suggest you to avoid free hostings.
 
Could I buy another domain name - say .co.uk - would this resolve the issue
 
Your site will rank better in the UK if you use UK hosting
Your site will also rank better in the UK if you have a co.uk

They both give you bonus points with Google!
 
Search on the forum for google maps cash. That shows you the techniques to get high local listings from google maps.
 
.co.uk domain will help but it won't reslove the hosting problem. Local domain + local hosting = first page at local google...
 
it really happens. the search results from local searches varies from global searches. it happened to one of my site too and work my ass on getting some local backlinks
 
You can get a .co.uk as well if u can keep it up and hence have two site=twice income :) only if u can maintain a new site.
One more thing is u can get a .co.uk get a redirect to ur domain and make backlinks for the .co.uk domain,idk but it could work.
