nuclear strike

Yes I know what happened to them, but they don't look like that now. They only evidence you can see that the bomb has gone off is over an old post office that was below where the bomb went off (Hiroshima) and it stayed standing. The rest has all been rebuilt and it looks like a normal city.

That doesn't dumb down the fact that millions of people were horrifically killed, maimed, cancer ridden...

The fuck is wrong with this generation? Seriously...

No need to worry this is just cartoon time

I can understand kim being pissed, but launching a missile at america is just a really bad idea. It's pretty much like committing suicide for him. I don't think he has the balls and is just blowing smoke. Guess we'll see pretty soon if he does or not.

Some of you may not be old enough or historically well versed enough to know, but this Kim is following all of the same bluff-and-bluster patterns of his predecessors. And America is following all of its routine reactionary patterns in kind.

North Korea's primary aim in all this, in all likelihood, has very little to do with the U.S. at all. Dictators in closed societies that have been sanctioned into relative oblivion by the world community only have so many means at their disposal to hold on to power or 'prove' their legitimacy. Whipping their populous up and into a nationalistic furor whilst simultaneously terrorizing them psychologically being the main ones. -- nothing motivates like a constant state of high tension and angst-ridden powerlessness save but for 'The Great Leader' that might bring salvation...

That being said, this Kim is sort of a wild card: very young, very spoiled, very deluded and probably very cloistered about the realities of what warring with the United States ultimately leads to: who knows what this young man's generals are telling him. I'm wagering it's stuff that makes him feel invincible.

So, regarding the possibilities, this is the way I see it:

  • This Kim is batshit crazy and has genuinely announced that he's about to launch (something) at some U.S. ally or interest. He follows through. Result: North Korea is occupied inside of 72 hours and entirely restructured inside of a year. Or,
  • This Kim is batshit crazy and the mobilisation of missiles to the N. Korean East coast (etc.) is a red herring, a diversionary tactic so that the real N. Korean attack plan can be effected. Result: North Korea is occupied inside of 72 hours and entirely restructured inside of a year. Or,
  • This Kim is batshit crazy and is sabre-rattling to 'legitimize' his regime at home. Result: his power is consolidated and no one goes to war. Time and the tide of Democracy (eventually) conquer the Kim dynasty -- not bombs, death and killing. At least not as much.

After living in the U.S. for awhile now, I can confidently say that the odds of America responding in kind to a North Korean nuclear strike, either here (if they somehow managed to throw or import one this far away), or, at a U.S. interest or ally, are slim and none. Ironically, because America has, thus far, been the only nation state to drop one on people. Generally speaking, one really does get the impression that this fact is the source of some shame. However, should North Korea really go the route of that sort of attack, we are all going to see a blitz that makes "shock and awe" look more like a small town fireworks display.

Regarding whether or not some, any, or all of these North Korea jokes are funny, I think it a proper sublimation of the fear of the vileness for which most wars are fought. I don't think one can be introspective about war absent some levity without inviting a condition of temporary insanity over how sad and ridiculous most wars truly are.

If one is making these jokes, however, out of nothing other than a sophomoric 'my Dad can beat up your Dad' sense of humour, I say you don't deserve the gift of laughter.

@BLIXX i disagree with u on several aspects. I mean i get your POV but I think it is just a facade of the reality. Kim just like Obama and pretty much any country leader and politician are puppets. So the fact he's spoiled or whatever is irrelevant because he's not really calling the shots. Weather they know they are puppets or not it is another discussion altogether.

Of the possible things to happen - only last one i agree with. No leader in this world will ever order a strike on one of the superpowers. Not even one from another superpower. China will never start a classic war with US, US will never start one with Russia, etc. The field of war has moved from the classic bombs and gore to other means - informational, economic, etc. The gore method is only used against weak enemies and where control has to be obtained through "breaking" the population and re-writing their belief systems.

Generally US/Allied armed responses to events are not really responses but initiators. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, etc. all were planned and initiated by the US. They were not a reactive response "in defense" to some event occurring. The event has been produced by US as it was a requirement to have the sympathy of the masses. They even have the nerve to make it public after a while - Vietnam didn't really attacked USS Maddox - it was just a story, Iraq didn't really had WMDs, Osama "Recicle" Bin actually was a CIA operative to start with, etc. So we have a bunch of fake stories for the required brainwashing to get the support of masses and we have the media working as the press agency of various 3-letter groups. So, things are seldom what they seem to be and how they seem to be.

Certainly. However, when one identifies the puppet, one ought to be able, by that fact, to identify the puppet's master. Sometimes this is easy; other times, not so easy. When it's not easy, we go down the road of speculation, conjecture and conspiracy for which there is less evidence than the simpler explanation. Which would be, in the contect of this particular discussion, that Kim III has some manner of power over what happens next.

So the fact he's spoiled or whatever is irrelevant because he's not really calling the shots.

He's replaced several generals and 'cabinet members'... He's certainly calling some shots, at least.

Weather they know they are puppets or not it is another discussion altogether.

To this I can generally agree, in principle at least. G.W. Bush comes to mind. In fact, when he was elected, I can recall thinking exactly that he was a puppet of his party. That he was little more than a malleable tool.

I think you're too sane and rational to wrap your head around the potential irrational actions or potential miscalculations to be made by N. Korea. Some rooted in the archetypal Korean cultural dynamic ("saving face" as one example). Kim III has talked so much smack at this point that if he says one more thing he'll have to do something. You can only make someone flinch so many times by acting like you're going to punch them.

To some of this I agree (especially "things are seldom what they seem to be and how they seem to be"); to some of it I don't. My response, though, wouldn't be, for the most part, forum appropriate. However, you seem to insinuate that the U.S. is on the war path to N. Korea, when it's self-evident if only listening to N. Korean state television that they, themselves, would be responsible for a conflagration should one occur. Which, again, I don't think one will, because I do not believe what N. Korea is saying or doing to have much, if anything, to do with the U.S.; the best evidence being that -- to the best of my knowledge -- they've yet to issue specific grievances or declared a list of demands. Short version: I think N. Korea is full of shit. I hope, at least.

Anyway, man, you shouldn't reflexively holler "black flag!" at every geo-political conflict the U.S. gets involved or pulled into. It's in the same category of thinking that a certain generation of Americans use to view all Russians as nihilistic alcoholics that one can't turn their backs on for a second for fear of the knife or being attacked by giant Chernobyl earthworms.

B.

@BLIXX I dont insinuate anything about USA and NK because I don't really see the whole picture. That being said if something happens I wouldn't be very surprised.

I don't like to generalize but history kinda speaks for itself when it comes to US "habits". I'm referring to US not US people. There's a huge distinction here. Also don't think i see US only as being something bad. There are great things about US and equally bad things - both in size and volume.

Indeed. And don't get me wrong, either: the soft sentimentality and highfalutin, pseudo-idealism with which the U.S. sells its wars to the herd always makes me throw up in my mouth a little. It's always a testament to the death of critical thinking. But, (and this is a big "but"), I just don't see how any objective person could fault the U.S. for cleaning house if N Korea were to follow through on a single one of these threats it is making. And yet, some people will. It would be entertaining to see what natural resource the reflexively anti-America set will claim the U.S. would be plundering this time; amusing to hear what the reflexively anti-America set might say about why America needs the entire land mass of the Korean peninsula to press its rights in the region.

The fuck is wrong with this generation? Seriously...

1). Humans lack a collective memory (unlike the Trills in Star Trek).

2). Most people don't study history ("too boring, and it's irrelevant").

3). Both the Gov. and Hollywood do a bang-up job of presenting war in a glorious light. Check out the recruitment posters and some John Wayne movies. Then listen to the song, or just read the lyrics to, "99 Red Balloons" --

"Everybody's a super hero,
Everybody's a Capt. Kirk!"

These three facts guarantee every generation must relearn the same things over... and over... and over... and over... and over...

Ad infinitum.

This guy is something ! He only wants to prove he's a big boy now. It's so pathetic.
What a super power trip he's doing OMG hehehehehehehe

Must have a small dick or something but you know what ? He could drop some on south Korea for sure !!! Who knows ? He HAS the nukes ya know...

You never know what NK got, that may have some heat over there hiding waiting to be deployed . every country in the world want to take us out. This is not a lauging matter if you ask me, cause if China join NK, its a wrap for us.

China knows are econmy suck, they know are dollar is weaking, they have a bigger plan would be my guess

i agree that this is no joke, because you don't know what nk has. don't forget what happened in ww2.

nobody saw that coming... :(

Even the somalian pirates can defeat these clowns with Nuclear weapon .

North Korean nuclear test draws anger, including from China

(Reuters) - North Korea conducted its third nuclear test on Tuesday in defiance of U.N. resolutions, drawing condemnation from around the world, including from its only major ally, China, which summoned the North Korean ambassador to protest.

North Korea said the test had "greater explosive force" than those it conducted in 2006 and 2009. Its KCNA news agency said it had used a "miniaturized" and lighter nuclear device, indicating it had again used plutonium, which is suitable for use as a missile warhead.

Former North Korean spy says, "Kim Jong-Un is struggling"

A former North Korean spy says the country's leader Kim Jong-Un is struggling to win his military's loyalty and is using the nuclear program to keep the public behind him.

Kim Hyun-Hee, who successfully carried out a mission in 1987 to blow up a South Korean airliner, killing 115 people, says the North's leader is too young and inexperienced.

"He's struggling to gain complete control over the military and to win their loyalty," she told ABC TV's 7.30 Report on Wednesday.

"That's why he's doing so many visits to military bases, to firm up support.

"He's also using the nuclear program as a bargaining chip for aid, to keep the public behind him."

The North last week told foreign diplomats in Pyongyang they had until April 10 to consider evacuating, fueling speculation of an imminent missile launch.
