Notifications vs emails - or both?

Would there be any reason to not use both emails and notifications when you publish a new post?

(by notification i mean that small window on the right that pop ups sometimes when you have browser opened and agreed to show notifications from that certain website)

ithink theres more readibility/visibility/place on email, so even if you were to write only 2 lines:
"hello john, how you are?

heres my post:

<link>"

then it still would look better on email than on notification due to lack of space.

I am considering using both at the moment

Those fuckin notification popups annoy the hell out of me, especially when you're getting asked multiple times after revisiting a site. Isn't me opting out should be saved, when nothing changes, ip, browser stays the same?
 
If you can implement notifications correctly (device targeted, only once per user and some other factors which I can't remember right now), You can use both at the same time by using notifications when you've published something and Emails once a month (or week).
PS: If your website supports user registration, take some effort to develop a basic notification settings page for your users.

opting out from notifications, can be done in browser settings

if it still doesnt work then its possible your browser got compromised or you have some shady extension/plugin that does it


i wouldnt use them too often, just when i publish a post, and i dont publish everyday.

Well, i get this on my notebook, new and old tablet too, not every site of course, but quite a few, no extensions or plugins on tablet. Some site owners don't care much, i suppose.

Answering to your question, if someone opts in, a few now and then won't hurt. Just make sure that those who opted out and identifyable, won't get re-asked every time, when they visit your site.
 
Email, If you sent notifications and emails in same time, damn you gonna get lots of spam reports, that's just too annoying put your self in the shoes of the customer..
