Notifications for "Quoted posts"!

People sometimes quote our posts for good and bad. The thing is sometimes we just don't see the quotes or sometimes we miss the whole thread. And often people come to the conclusion that we have been avoiding their posts. If only we had a notification for every time someone quoted our posts, we would be better able to solve their problems and such. A good idea would be to go to the subscribed threads and check all the replies. But that is time consuming and at other times, some members deactivate the "Subscribe after reply option". This would be a really great addition from my perspective. What do you guys think?

I thought about this ages ago. I always find myself having to watch over threads to see if they get anymore replies, to see if anyone has quoted me.

It would be cool if when posting every post we can click whether or not we want to receive notifications for the post being quoted.
 
A feature that means you don't have to subscribe to every response in the threads but instead the responses of a particular person or people that quote your posts wpuld mean you wouldn't always have to check yourself.

+1 for the idea.
 
It's a great idea. I already get notifications on my phone when someone quotes me here (tapatalk app), but would be nice not to have to rely on that and it being built in to the forum script somehow.

I use tapatalk too but like you said, it's better if we could get notifications from the forum :)

Though I wonder how the system would track it, but I would love to see it implemented.
 
I have thought about this before also and thought there was something I was missing to be able to see replies to me, but unfortunately not
 
Somebody had already suggested this some time ago but I don't know why they never did something with it.

I guess it is really hard to implement this. Maybe the entire forum needs to be re-modelled. I guess that's why no one hasn't taken an action yet.

Well, remember this is simply a Suggestions sub-forum, not a Petition sub-forum.

Meaning the admins/mods can make changes if they want to or not, regardless of what the general population wants. It also may not be a technology that exists within the vbulletin database.

Edit: I remember seeing a little app floating around here that allowed you to set specific keywords and it would alert you if they were mentioned here in BHW.

A few lines of javascript, (possibly a new table to store the notifications,) and an ajax call can do it :D So, nothing real tough about it :)
